We are about to start work on the DF classes events calendar for 2020.
I know this is a bit late, but there has been a bit going on with launching DFRacingNZ and bringing in all the DF95 owners.
I raised the possibility of TRSC hosting some DF class events.
There’s a lot of activity around the DF classes in your part of the country,
so having TRSC host DF65 or DF95 events seems a “no-brainer” (well at least from where I sit).
One option is a club regatta specifically designed to bring in the local DF65 fleet. It would possibly need to be a mix of fun events and serious racing - pretty sure that a full-on two day regatta would turn many of the Papamoa guys off. An option could be to run a coaching weekend with the racing interspersed between the coaching sessions. In addition to the Papmoa fleet, there is also a growing group of DF65 owners in and around Kawerau who would love a BOP event.
I’m not sure whether we would get the numbers to a BOP DF65 Regionals.
However, if a club event like the above was scheduled for mid-year,
we could judge interest for a regional's later in the year and still have time to put an event together.
I’m particularly keen to see a BOP DF95 Regional Champs.
You seem to have good numbers of DF95s between BOP and Coromandel
and I’m sure you would attract skippers from outside the region.
In addition to all the above, we’ve had a lot of member feedback showing support for a traveller series.
I quite like the Traveller Trophy format used in the UK where they run DF65s on Saturday and DF95s on Sunday.
These are effectively run as club regattas so this may be another option TRSC may wish to consider.
Let me know how all this sounds and If there’s sufficient TRSC interest, we can start to work on some formats and dates.
cheers
