Canterbury J Class website

With Waihi weeded out and IOM's no longer able to sail there currently.

I needed to redirect my Waihi Project to plan B...

A smaller lighter J with very shallow draft so i can float over the weed just under the surface.

My 3d printer is currently configured to print 1060mm x 245mm x 215mm (for IOM's)

So these were my maximum parameters to try and sqeeze out a J Class type boat.

Bruce Mc has drawn up Rainbow which is 1200mm long.

I scaled her x, y & z to fit the maximum of the printable area of my 3d printer.

And hit go..

The print took about 30 hours in Vase mode, 1mm Nozzle, Layer height 0.2mm

A quick light sand with 40 grit sandpaper and sanding block and the hull was ready for glassing.

3 layers of 200gram and she should be now be bulletproof...

Last night I printed a mast step. I going to fit her out with IOM rigs for starters and see if the works ?

I am bit worried if i can hit the center of ballance CLR of the hull on my first attempt ...

Bruce checked my new dimensions on delft ship and I should be about right with an IOM rig...

Shell now 900 grams with 3 layers of glass

Bruce's estimated displacement rigged is 3.5kg... IOM B rig ? (with A and C options if it works :)
