Wellie Tri Factor Part iii

Sunday 7am and the alarm sounded to an overcast but fine morning

Breakfast, cold shower, packed up my mostly dry clothes and hit the road for Whitby Lake Lower.

9am and I’m driving around Whitby scoping out the Lake all the surrounding area.

Wow, What a Great venue !

Basically like Lake Gilmour Waihi, same size (with No Island) . The wind was up and down the lake which made for a great long beat with a concrete path all the way.

The Whitby McPherson Invitational

I set up a rain shelter and before I had finished the Wellie team started rocking in. Also before I could finish the build, the sky’s opened up again and it started to rain hard… Dam. With shelter built and an extra mark thrown in the lake to give us a starting gate mid course, we were off racing in mid, to top, A rig conditions.

Generally a slightly Starboard bias start with everyone jockeying for the boat end. The wind was a left / right moving around every 20 seconds. A little more regularly at the top mark as you got closer to the houses. The spreader then down past the fountain in the middle of the downwind racecourse. Either inside or outside or threw… Bottom mark spreader then onto the 2nd lap. Great course. Long races, Loved it J

3pm and dripping wet. A Happy bunch of sailors called it for the day.

We all said goodbyes and at 4pm I hit the road heading north for a couple of hours. State highway one had flood waters across it in four different places where with highway workers were slowing traffic. Poor people heading south had some very long waits.

Pulled over at Woodville for the night. Hopefully the desert road is open in the morning so I can make it home for a 1pm DF65 session at the Tauranga Lakes. (weather permitting)
