We are really going to miss Carl and Tess who have done multiple roles on our committee

They have just moved to Northland and were fantastic at our administration and organizing our club events, working behind the scenes, for many years.

Mega thanks to you two, and good luck up North. We hope to see you on the water soon at a regional event.

Our club is now at a new crossroads with three new classes gaining strength over the last 12 months, Cant J, DF65, DF95

So i thought i would give you a quick history of our club, before our AGM, so you better understand our thinking of our committees in the past.

Way back everyone use to sail socially IOM's on the harbour

It was tidal so sailing times were different every week and followed the tide times.

Only about a 3 hour sailing window looking into the sun. (Salt Water...)

Then the developer built "The Lake". https://www.thelakestauranga.co.nz/Lifestyle/Recreation/Tauranga+Radio+Sailing+Club.html

We had no footpath, houses or trees. Just the bridge. (Gary's house was one of the 1st houses on the Lake)

We tried all the parts of the Lake and decided the most stable wind was between the Bus Stop and the Bridge with the sun behind us.

With a lot of help from the developer we built the path and left part of our Jetty over a stone drain that we use to launch off.

In 2009 we were asked to run the IOM New Zealand nationals.

We created the Tauranga Radio Sailing Club Constitution & Rules and joined the New Zealand Radio Yachting Asc.

https://sites.google.com/site/tgarsc/home/tauranga-radio-sailing-club-constitution-and-current-committee-members

The jetty was extended to the right and the right hand path was put in with the developers help..

When we created the TRSC we were very aware there was likely to be new classes in our club in the future,

so we very carefully wrote the constitution to allow for this. (to not be just the TRSC IOM club)

We ran the 2010 and 2015 IOM Nationals successfully from the Jetty.

Since then we really only sailed IOM's at the Jetty. A few of us have jumped in and out of other classes like Marbleheads, EC12, Multihulls, ect...

Over the last 12 months, over one hundred DF65's have been sold from Papamoa and there has been a boom of Cant J Class boats in Waihi.

Soon we have a Cant J class regatta at Waihi and we need to decide what DF Sailing classes are going to want in 2021.

August 2020 we started the 1pm Monday and 1pm Thursday DF65 sessions at the Lakes Bus Stop

to see if there was any locally interest (now are regularly getting ten to fifteen DF65's at these 1pm sessions)

So where to from here ???? PLEASE Come to the AGM this Thursday.

Put your hand up to be on the 2021 TRSC Management Committee

and help shape your TRSC going forward in 2021.

We know a lot of you live out of Tauranga area

So please send us any apologies or items you would like on our agenda
