Saturday 2nd November 2024 Road Trip Report

10am, myself and Justin hit the road from Omokoroa heading north. Just a small bit of congestion around Auckland's Spaghetti Junction, but other than that, a very smooth trip to Smales Quarry.

12:40pm and there were already IOMs on the water warming up in the Quarry, but the wind had not really arrived yet. A catch-up with everyone, a quick rig, and we were on the water. The wind started to build, but the first few races were tricky.

After a couple of races, repeating patterns started to emerge. The west channel with wind would come in from the right the closer you approached the top mark. And down by Lake Pupuke, a northerly tended to come in, stronger to the south side. A great two hours racing around the cans.

3pm, and we all stopped sailing and set up under the two North Shore gazebos to enjoy Clough's well-prepared cook-up. Thanks heaps Graham! :)

North Shore sent a big team to the IOM Worlds and everyone had done really well.  Some toasts to their success and a few fun prizes. At 4pm, we hit the road for Tauranga, and after a long debrief, we were both home safe and well after another sailing adventure.

Thanks North Shore Crew for a great day out.

Graham
