DF65 Sailor Adrian Thrupp (Thruppy) NZL 136

Passed away yesterday. Adrian sailed for most of his life through many different classes. He was an excellent sailor. Here at The Lakes he sailed IOM's successfully for many years and in recent years got joy from sailing from the bank at The Bus Stop. NZL136 won a lot of races and when Adrian was hot, he was hot.

Here are some words from some of his sailing mates.

We started the afternoon sailing at the Bus Stop yesterday with the sad news received from Adrian’s Son – Jason – that his Dad had passed away after a long battle with cancer.

He asked that the news be passed on to our Club Members.

Adrian must have been looking over us sailing yesterday with the weather not great but hey presto – suddenly the change came and it was much better for all on the water.

It was just as he would have liked with some excellent sailing conditions and fun for one and all.

“You will be missed Buddy – I have really enjoyed my association with you at the Lakeside. You have been a great sailing mentor and above all - a good friend.

My mate Grandad has passed away, that is so sad, not for him, but for us, his sailing buddies. He was a tough racing competitor. We loved the way he still got to sail even though he was struggling, With Vanda and The Dog he had wonderful support even at the lakeside. RIP Adrian.
