For the Salmon:
1 pound salmon fillets
1 tablespoon butter (or olive oil)
Salt and black pepper to taste
For the Orange Glaze:
1/2 cup fresh orange juice (from about 1 orange)
2 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon cornstarch (optional, for a thicker glaze)
1 teaspoon water (to mix with cornstarch, optional)
For Garnish:
Fresh parsley (optional)
Orange slices (optional)
Prep the Salmon:
Begin by seasoning the salmon fillets with salt and pepper. If the salmon has pin bones, be sure to remove those. Heat the butter (or olive oil) in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the salmon fillets, skin-side up. Cook for 3-5 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
Flip and Cook:
Flip the salmon fillets and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 145°F (75°C), ensuring the salmon is fully cooked through.
Make the Orange Glaze:
Remove the salmon from the skillet and set aside on a plate, covering it with foil to keep it warm. In the same skillet, lower the heat to medium. Add the fresh orange juice, honey, soy sauce, and minced garlic. If you want a thicker glaze, mix the cornstarch with water to create a slurry and add it to the skillet. Stir the mixture and cook until the glaze thickens (30-60 seconds if using cornstarch).
Combine Salmon and Glaze:
Return the salmon fillets to the skillet and coat them with the orange glaze. If desired, add orange slices to the skillet for added flavor and decoration. Allow the salmon to simmer in the glaze for an additional minute or two.
Serve:
Garnish the salmon with fresh parsley and serve with your choice of side dishes, such as roasted vegetables, potatoes, or a fresh salad. Serve warm and enjoy!
