Full Recipe:
For the Hamburger Steaks:
1.3 pounds ground beef
4 tablespoons breadcrumbs
1 medium yellow onion, grated
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons heavy cream
1 egg
For the Creamy Dill Sauce:
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
½ cup low-sodium chicken broth
1 cup heavy cream
2 tablespoons freshly chopped dill (plus extra for garnish)
Prepare the Hamburger Steaks:
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated onion, salt, pepper, heavy cream, and egg. Mix gently until just combined avoid overmixing to keep the patties tender.
Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions. Shape each portion into a ball, then flatten into patties about ¾ inch thick.
Cook the Patties:
Heat the olive oil and butter over medium heat in a large nonstick skillet.
Add the patties to the skillet and cook for 4–5 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through.
Transfer the cooked patties to a clean plate and set aside.
Prepare the Creamy Dill Sauce:
In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Reduce heat to low and cook until fragrant, about 2 minutes.
Stir in the salt, pepper, and flour, cooking for another minute to form a roux.
Gradually add the chicken broth, stirring to incorporate and scraping up any browned bits from the skillet.
Pour in the heavy cream and add the chopped dill. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce to a simmer for 1–2 minutes until the sauce begins to thicken.
Combine and Serve:
Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet, spooning some of the sauce over them. Simmer for 5–6 minutes until the steaks are heated through and no longer pink in the center.
Garnish with additional chopped dill and freshly ground black pepper before serving.
