This Juicy Turkey Meatloaf is a flavorful and moist alternative to traditional beef meatloaf. By incorporating ingredients like sautéed onions, breadcrumbs soaked in milk, and a savory glaze, this recipe ensures a tender and juicy outcome. It's perfect for a comforting weeknight dinner or a hearty meal to feed the family.
Full Recipe:
For the Meatloaf:
1½ pounds ground turkey (preferably 93% lean)
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup breadcrumbs
½ cup milk
1 large egg
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
For the Glaze:
½ cup ketchup
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Sauté Aromatics: In a small skillet, sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic over medium heat until softened and translucent, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
Prepare Breadcrumb Mixture: In a separate bowl, combine the breadcrumbs and milk. Let them sit for about 5 minutes to allow the breadcrumbs to absorb the milk.
Mix Meatloaf Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, sautéed onion and garlic, breadcrumb mixture, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined; avoid overmixing to keep the meatloaf tender.
Shape Meatloaf: Transfer the meat mixture into a lightly greased loaf pan, pressing it in evenly.
Prepare Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard (if using).
Apply Glaze: Spread half of the glaze evenly over the top of the meatloaf.
Bake: Place the loaf pan in the preheated oven and bake for 45 minutes.
Add Remaining Glaze: After 45 minutes, remove the meatloaf from the oven and spread the remaining glaze over the top. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
Rest and Serve: Remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute, ensuring a moist and flavorful meatloaf.
