Firecracker Shrimp is a delightful dish that combines crispy, golden shrimp with a sweet and spicy glaze. The shrimp are marinated in a flavorful mixture of soy sauce, honey, garlic, ginger, and sriracha, then lightly coated and fried to perfection. This dish is perfect as an appetizer, party snack, or served over rice for a complete meal.
For the Shrimp:
1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined, tails on
2 tbsp olive oil (plus more for frying)
1 tsp fresh garlic, minced
½ tsp fresh ginger, minced
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp honey
1 tsp sriracha (or more to taste)
¼ cup all-purpose flour
¼ cup cornstarch
¼ tsp salt
¼ tsp black pepper
For Garnish:
2 green onions, thinly sliced
Sesame seeds (optional)
Directions
Marinate the Shrimp:
In a large bowl, whisk together olive oil, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, honey, and sriracha. Add the shrimp and toss to coat. Cover and refrigerate for 10–15 minutes.
Prepare the Dredge:
In a shallow bowl, mix together flour, cornstarch, salt, and black pepper.
Coat the Shrimp:
Remove the shrimp from the marinade, letting any excess drip off. Dredge each shrimp in the flour mixture, ensuring an even coat. Shake off any excess.
Fry the Shrimp:
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add enough olive oil to coat the bottom. Once hot, add the shrimp in a single layer. Fry for 2–3 minutes per side until golden and crispy. Work in batches if necessary.
Serve:
Transfer the cooked shrimp to a plate. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds, if desired. Serve immediately, either on their own or over rice.
