This Hawaiian-style garlic shrimp recipe brings the flavors of the islands to your kitchen. Succulent shrimp are sautéed in a rich, garlicky butter sauce, reminiscent of the famous shrimp trucks found on the North Shore of Oahu. With a hint of spice and a burst of lemon, this dish is both comforting and indulgent. It's perfect for a weeknight dinner or a special occasion.
Full Recipe:
1 lb extra-large shrimp (21–30 count per pound), peeled and deveined
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1½ teaspoons paprika
⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
6 tablespoons unsalted butter, diced into 1-tablespoon pieces
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 tablespoon minced fresh parsley (optional)
Prepare the Shrimp: Using paper towels, pat the shrimp dry on both sides to remove excess moisture. Place them in a bowl.
Season the Shrimp: Sprinkle the shrimp with flour, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Toss to evenly coat.
Cook the Shrimp: In a large 12-inch non-stick skillet, melt the butter with olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to let it brown. Add the shrimp in a single layer. Cook on the first side until pinkish in color, about 2 minutes. Flip the shrimp and cook the opposite side until just cooked through, about 2 minutes longer.
Finish the Dish: Remove the skillet from heat. Toss the shrimp with lemon juice and garnish with parsley, if using.
Serve: Serve the shrimp immediately, topped with the garlic butter sauce from the pan.
