Full Recipe:
For the Rolls:
16–19 oz pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
8 mozzarella string cheese sticks (cut into 1-inch pieces)
½ tablespoon milk or 1 egg (for brushing)
Flaky sea salt (optional)
For the Garlic Herb Butter:
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
¼ cup finely grated Parmesan cheese
2 small cloves garlic, minced (or 1 large clove)
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil
Salt and pepper to taste
To Serve:
1 slice cheese (mozzarella, provolone, or cheddar)
Marinara sauce (for dipping)
Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Prepare the Cheese and Dough:
Cut each mozzarella string cheese stick into 1-inch pieces.
Divide the pizza dough into 32 equal pieces.
Assemble the Rolls:
Flatten each piece of dough into a small rectangle.
Place a piece of cheese in the center and wrap the dough around it, pinching the edges to seal.
Roll the dough into a ball and place it seam side down on the prepared baking sheet.
Arrange the dough balls in the shape of a football, ensuring they are touching but not overcrowded.
Brush and Bake:
Brush the tops of the dough balls with milk or a beaten egg.
Sprinkle with flaky sea salt if desired.
Bake for 18 minutes, then switch the oven to broil and cook for an additional 2–3 minutes until the tops are golden brown.
Prepare the Garlic Herb Butter:
In a medium bowl, combine the melted butter, Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, chopped parsley, chopped basil, salt, and pepper.
Stir until well combined.
Finish the Rolls:
Remove the rolls from the oven and brush them generously with the garlic herb butter.
Cut the slice of cheese into 7 thin strips and arrange them on top of the rolls to mimic football laces.
Serve:
Allow the rolls to cool slightly before serving.
Serve with warm marinara sauce for dipping.
