1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1-inch piece of ginger, peeled and minced
2 green onions, finely sliced
¼ cup hoisin sauce
¼ cup tomato ketchup
1 lb (450g) lean ground beef
1 lb (450g) lean ground pork
1 cup (60g) soft breadcrumbs
1 large egg
3 tablespoons soy sauce
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
Sauté Aromatics: In a medium-sized non-stick frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion, minced garlic, minced ginger, and sliced green onions. Sauté for about 3 minutes until the vegetables are softened. Remove from heat and set aside.
Prepare Glaze: In a small bowl, mix together hoisin sauce and tomato ketchup. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
Combine Meat Mixture: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, egg, soy sauce, ground black pepper, and the sautéed vegetable mixture. Add half of the hoisin-ketchup glaze to the meat mixture. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
