The French Onion Chicken Bake is a comforting and flavorful dish that combines tender, seasoned chicken breasts with the rich, savory taste of French onion soup. Topped with melted light mozzarella cheese, this easy-to-make recipe brings the classic flavors of French onion soup into a hearty main course.
6 (4 oz) skinless, boneless chicken breasts
¼ teaspoon paprika
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
¼ teaspoon seasoned salt
2 tablespoons light butter (made with canola oil)
1 yellow onion, peeled and sliced
1 (10 oz) can French onion soup
1 cup low-sodium beef broth
½ cup fat-free or light mozzarella cheese (shredded)
Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Sauté the Onions: In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté until softened and translucent.
Prepare the Chicken: Season each chicken breast with paprika, garlic powder, and seasoned salt.
Cook the Chicken: In the same skillet, cook the seasoned chicken breasts over medium-high heat for 5–7 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
Combine with Soup: Add the sautéed onions back into the skillet with the chicken. Pour in the French onion soup and beef broth. Simmer for 2–3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Add Cheese: Top each chicken breast with shredded mozzarella cheese.
Bake: Transfer the skillet or contents to an oven-safe baking dish if necessary. Bake in the preheated oven for 10–15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
