This Honey Garlic Shrimp recipe offers a delightful balance of sweet and savory flavors, combining succulent shrimp with a sticky, aromatic sauce. Ready in under 10 minutes, it's an ideal choice for a quick weeknight dinner or an impressive appetizer. The method of "velveting" the shrimp with soy sauce and cornstarch ensures a tender texture, while the honey-garlic glaze adds depth and richness. Garnished with green onions and optional chili flakes, this dish is both flavorful and visually appealing.
450g (1 lb) shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 tbsp light soy sauce
1 tbsp cornstarch
2 tbsp vegetable oil
3–4 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp ginger paste or grated fresh ginger
4 tbsp honey
¼ tsp chili flakes (optional)
2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
Prepare the Shrimp: In a medium bowl, combine the soy sauce and cornstarch. Add the shrimp and toss to coat evenly. Set aside for a few minutes.
Cook the Aromatics: Heat the vegetable oil in a non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and ginger, cooking for no longer than 30 seconds until fragrant.
Cook the Shrimp: Add the shrimp to the pan and cook for 1–2 minutes on each side, depending on their size, until they are pink and opaque.
Add the Honey Sauce: Pour in the honey and add the chili flakes if using. Toss the shrimp to coat them evenly in the sauce. Remove from heat.
Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle the sliced green onions over the shrimp before serving.
