The White River Monster is a huge, long-bodied tarpon with pointed dorsal fins, gray stripes on its back, and skin and scales that range in hue from silver to gray like a tiger and an elephant together. The fish has a false serrated teeth under the lips. On July 1 of that year, an owner of a plantation near the river saw the monster. He reported it having gray skin and "as wide as a car and three cars long." As the news spread construction of a rope net began, but ended due to lack of money and materials.
The White River Monsters are slow swimmers, intermittent feeders, and quite strong, but once they get caught, they are also very good at "locking" their spot on the riverbed. The White River Monster might still be able to bite with some vigor, though, which could cause pain.

Like all tarpons, the fish are often very cautious near people and startle easily. They also occasionally, and generally unintentionally, hurt people. The majority of injuries happen when anglers attempt to release White River Monster following a struggle, during which the tarpon is said to have killed the angler through its ferocious thrashing.
Since the fish is a tarpon, the Native Americans seal and imprison it with beavers, American alligators, cougars, jaguars, and fisher cats to keep it from crossing the White River Monster to the Mississippi River and the Gulf of Mexico. The fish itself is an endemic species that inhabits the White River between Missouri and Arkansas in the United States.
