Soulseer Mizutsune (Bullavulpes elegansos; Japanese: 天眼タマミツネ) is the fictional species of saurischian wyvern called Leviathans, introduced in Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate.

Etymology

Physical Appearance

Although blind, Soulseer Mizutsune is able to perceive its environment through its bubbles. While not enraged, it will move about an area, releasing bubbles that will expand outwards in a spiral pattern before disappearing. Until a hunter comes in contact with these bubbles, Soulseer Mizutsune will move and attack much slower than a normal Mizutsune. It may attack more unpredictably as well, given that it cannot see its targets.

If a hunter comes in contact with its bubbles, Soulseer Mizutsune will immediately become enraged. It will attack more quickly and aggressively. Instead of releasing bubbles of different size or color, Soulseer Mizutsune will launch blue bubbles that explode on contact. These bubbles can inflict fireblight. Soulseer Mizutsune will often attempt to chain its exploding bubbles into other attacks.

Throughout the hunt, Soulseer Mizutsune will coat its front claws or tail with dark red bubbles, similar to the red, attack-boosting bubbles that common Mizutsune are known to release. This coating will make the applied part more vulnerable to damage and easier for blademaster weapons to cut, but will also increase their damage output. In addition, if a hunter is struck by Soulseer Mizutsune's claws or tail while the dark red bubbles are applied, then the hunter will get an attack boost for a short duration.

Soulseer Mizutsune will occasionally rear back, then attack with a spiral, drill-like rush. It is also capable of launching itself straight into the air, then coming back down with a body slam. The latter often has little warning and deals significant damage. When enraged, Soulseer Mizutsune will almost always follow up its double claw strike with one of these two attacks.

Soulseer Mizutsune's (and by extension, Rise's Apex Mizutsune's) explosive bubbles may be a deliberate reference to "Kitsunebi", balls of fire created by magical Kitsune to lead them through the night.

Abilities

Mizutsune is able to breathe bubbles at its enemies and is able to produce these bubbles in its fur. These bubbles inflict bubble blight, which hinders movement. It can also fire pressurized jets of water from its mouth, much like Plesioth. It can be observed preying on fish or grooming its claws when not provoked.

Weaknesses

When low on stamina, Mizutsune's yellow fins change to a blue color, but Mizutsune will eat fish from a fishing spot to recover Stamina. Without hitting a foe with one of its bubbles, Soulseer Mizutsune can't see enemy too well. It is possible to avoid all of its bubbles through a whole quest.

Ecology

Diet

Mizutsune are carnivorous in nature, feeding mainly on fish and other small prey. However, Mizutsune are known to feed on larger prey occasionally like Kelbi and other mammals, birds, small reptiles, frogs and salamanders, and even insects. Though Mizutsune are capable predators, they must compete with other large predatory monsters like Zinogre, Astalos, Lagiacrus, Nargacuga, and Plesioth. Mizutsune is a recently discovered species of Leviathan Wyvern by Agents of Shield and University of Tokyo that resembles a sacred beast found in Yukumo or Nara Village's legends during Sengoku period causing eating humans.

Soulseer Mizutsune is a Mizutsune Deviant who is an extremely large creature but has no remaining vision. Its face was severely injured during a turf fight with another monster, most likely a Zinogre, and as a result, this old Mizutsune is now blind.

Ecological Niche and Biological Adaptions

Mizutsune's most unique adaptation is its ability to produce bubbles. It is able to produce the bubbles by using special fluid secretions, produced from its own body along with water, and rubbing its hairs in the secretions. These stiff yet soft purple hairs are found on its chest, tail, legs, and sides. The hairs are used for sliding on the fluids it produces, spreading the fluids, and even using the fluids to produce more bubbles. Mizutsune can also breathe these bubbly fluids from its mouth. It is known to use the bubbles it produces both offensively and defensively in battle.

It uses the bubbles to help it move faster and to make it more flexible in battle, while simultaneously impeding the movement of any foes. In order to stop itself quickly while moving, Mizutsune has special hook-like claws that allow it to stop sliding quickly to face threats and not leave itself open. Despite Mizutsune's strange appearance, the fins actually act as receptors for detecting the presence of predators and prey coming through vibrations in the secretions. Like a snake, Mizutsune's teeth are recurved to prevent prey from escaping easily. Its jaws are even designed like a snake to an extent, even being able to open its mouth wide and swallow some large prey.

Behavior

Like Mizutsune, Soulseer Mizutsune are rather calm in nature until provoked. Usually, Soulseer Mizutsune spend most of their time sleeping. Once a bubble touches a hunter, Soulseer Mizutsune will go into Rage Mode. The Bubbly Dance Skill will also trigger this effect.

Distribution and Habitat

Mizutsune has been seen inhabiting the Misty Peaks and Primal Forest. Mizutsune is the one of the species of saurischian wyverns are marked by Agents of Shield as Most Elegant of All Leviathans according to the ancient texts in Ancient Japan to Edo period and endemic to Japan, but invasive species to Korea, China, India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Philippines, Austria, Russia, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Morocco, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Andorra, Monaco, to Cornwall made by humans and wyverians. This animal was mentioned by Roberto and Juliet about this animal found in air breathing coral reefs biomes, but it avoided the Rotten Vale sections in Lighruperisal archipelago and peninsula.

Tamed

Soulseer Mizutsune was highly resistant to comatose, except for more to shoot and utilized narcotics to continuously overdose while being tranquilized by bullets and rendered comatose. Because the survivor is constantly within 17 radii of the hatching egg, Soulseer Mizutsune are quickly tamed after they emerge from an egg. If the Soulseer Mizutsune is untrained, you can tame Soulseer Mizutsune with fish flakes, fish flesh, any meat, fish eggs, or fish meat wrapped in seaweed.
