The Obsidian Khastwim (Charadrionychus vulcanus) is the one of the fictional species of medium-sized plover upcoming introduced in Weather Dragons.
The word comes from Bengali: "sickle wing". In both word and Bengali script: কাস্তে (Kāstē) means "sickle" and উইং (U'iṁ) means "wing".
Singular: khastwim
Plural: khastwima
In native Sawintiran is Chonglapov means "sickle dancer". In Bengali as কালো পাথর খাস্তুঈং "Kālō pāthara khāstu'īṁ".

The grayish-red to black feathers of the Obsidian Khastwim are almost exactly like those of plovers, with black spots on white feathers and a black plump-breasted band on the collar. has both wings and a tail covered in reddish-gray, black-banded white feathers. They had gray legs. The name comes from the blackish-gray claws and spurs of the Obsidian Khastwim, which resemble obsidian. Because of evolution, these plovers' beaks were longer than those of their progenitors. from black and orange-tipped beaks. The color of the eyes is blue.
The largest known plover in the Earth Responsibly universe, the Obsidian Khastwim is around 1.5 meters tall, 35–52 meters long, with a wingspan of 115–128 meters, and weighs 120 kilos.
In contrast to its relatives, when an Obsidian Khastwim encounters a predator, it releases its own black fog from its mouth, which causes the predator to become momentarily blind, if the volcano doesn't erupt. Unlike all other lapwing species, Obsidian Khastwim can spew a fireball using their own fire sac when the volcano erupts. They can pierce the flesh with their long spurs, which are sharper than a blade.
The Obsidian Khastwim had fireproof feathers that never burned, indicating that this species had Versatile Birdwax, a wax on their feathers that helps them stay dry or burn out like penguins and repels both hot and cold water as well as molten lava or fire.
Despite only existing in volcanoes, the Obsidian Khastwima are incredibly adaptive. Originally found on volcanoes, these birds now flourish in airports, school ovals, suburban parks, and even flat rooftops. Insects, worms, fish, frogs, lizards, snakes, flowers, herbs, and sometimes seeds are among the foods they consume.
The Obsidian Khastwim was nocturnal and is known for making loud alarm calls and dive-bombing anyone who approached its nest, in contrast to all lapwings, which are all diurnal. It was particularly territorial during mating. Despite their aggressiveness, lapwings are often not harmful; nevertheless, they can become accustomed to people in cities, and their attacks are more like bluff shows than actual blows. When not nesting, this bird was neutral rather than "friendly."
The Obsidian Khastwim was discovered in Sawintir and other volcanoes on other islands, as well as infrequently on the global mainland. Due to the introduction of this species in the past, there have been multiple reports of lapwings with black katana-like spurs living in Eurasia and on islands in the Indian Ocean.

Create three or more bolas, tranq arrows, bullets, or darts, and narcotics in case they attempt to wake up. On the beaches, locate one. Sprinkle some bola over it. Use your tranq items (wait five seconds between each shot; if you don't, you'll only cause damage). Push mollusks or fish meat down the animal's throat. If it tries to wake up, use narcotics. Likewise, hold off until you can make the saddle. The only other option is for survivors to steal a Khastwim egg. Khastwim chicks need to be fed or milked as soon as they hatch. Up so noobs can see.
Not too much is known about this animal. It was capable of using its wing as a defensive shield or a bludgeoning weapon by fanning it out. It will try to intimidate opponents using its wings and wingtip long spurs. Its beak is tough enough to be stabbed into the ground with considerable force without sustaining damage.

With extremely long odachi-like spurs on their wings, the Khastwim species (Goldenrod and Obsidian) were modeled after the spur-winged and masked lapwings.
