Maotianoascus octonarius is an extinct species of stem-group ctenophore, known from the Chinese Maotianshan shales of Yunnan.

The top part of the body was divided into eight "lobes" that bore each of the eight comb rows.
Their bodies are made up of a mass of jelly, with one layer lining the internal chamber and another two cells thick on the outside. The flat, typically combless platyctenids, the large-mouthed beroids that feed on other ctenophores, and the egg-shaped cydippids with a pair of retractable tentacles that catch prey are just a few examples of the phylum's many body shapes.
