Rathian

“ The "Queens of the Land" are female fire-breathing wyverns. They primarily prey on the ground thanks to their strong legs and poisonous tails. Rathians and Rathalos work well together, and they are occasionally spotted hunting together. ”

Rathian (Dilitirodispodus kokotonica) is a Rathalos' female wyvern introduced in Monster Hunter 1.

Etymology

Coming from English word wrath, because of the word removes the letter W- into rath; and suffix word for feminine -ian.

Physical Appearance

Rathian is a medium-sized true-flying wyvern similar in looks to her male counterpart, Rathalos. Her hide is a dull, muted green in contrast to the Rathalos' deep red, and her lower mandible features a long, protruding chin spike. Her upper back and wingtips are covered in a moss-like fur not seen on the Rathalos, and while her clubbed tail lacks bony spikes, it makes up for this with the presence of sharp and highly poisonous needles.

Abilities

She can generate flaming projectiles from her mouth. She is notably more proficient in the use of this weapon, however, as she is commonly seen releasing multiple blasts at once. In addition, she is capable of charging up and releasing a more potent fire blast, which can ignite a swath of ground in front of her. She can use the poisonous barbs on her tail club to inflict blunt-force, toxic wounds on foes. Due to sexual dimorphism, Rathians have a poisonous tail but lack the poisonous claws of the male wyvern and are replaced with claws instead.

Weakness

Rathians are weakened by poison to make fewer fireball attacks, but not poison can nerf. One of the main reasons Rathian can fall in the sky is a flash bomb that goes off. It also works to free a pinned hunter. When Rathian is low on stamina, her fire breath fails.

Ecology

The Rathians are high-ranking predators in the food chain. She is the female land-dwelling counterpart to the male Rathalos who patrols the skies. Both will work together to capture prey and ensure the safety of their nests from predators. Such predators include other wyverns, large salamanders, and even dragons. Despite these threats, the Fire Wyvern still has a few tricks up its sleeves to fend off would-be attackers. Rathians often use fireballs to attack foes from both land and air. However, her poison-tipped tail and powerful fire sac allow her to inflict serious injuries on other apex predators, which may cause them to cease their attack on her and her nest quicker.

Both Rathian and Rathalos have a spike protruding from their chin, but it grows much larger and sharper on Rathian. Rathian is one of the few monsters who sits at the top of the food chains in our world and in Monster Hunter. Some monsters like Lavasioth, Jyurantodus, Glavenus, Espinas, Diablos, Monoblos, Daimyo Hermitaur, Kushala Daora, Anjanath, Great Jagras, Kulu-Ya-Ku, Akura Vashimu, and others would try their best not to cross the line set by the female Fire Wyvern.

Behavior

Rathian is very territorial, choosing to patrol from the ground while her Rathalos mate patrols from the sky. She will become very aggressive toward potential threats, especially when in close proximity to her nest and young.

Distribution and Habitat

Rathian have been spotted in many kinds of environments, from temperate deciduous to tropical rainforest worldwide to desert.

Tamed

Rathian can be a pet. The meat dropped by the survivor works when the monster has not noticed the survivor.
