This Earth Responsibly Universe site is just for the nation, a discrete region of the world, such as a state, nation, nation state, or other political body. The term "country" can refer to a constituent country, a dependent region, a state with restricted recognition, or a sovereign state when discussing a particular polity. Not all nations, but the majority of sovereign states, are UN members. There isn't a consensus on how many "countries" there are in the globe because some governments have limited or contested recognition, and many non-sovereign entities are regarded as countries.
When referring to a specific polity, the term "country" may refer to a sovereign state, state with limited recognition, constituent country, or dependent territory. A sovereign state is a political entity that has supreme legitimate authority over a part of the world. There is no universal agreement on the number of "countries" in the world since several states have disputed sovereignty status, and a number of non-sovereign entities are commonly called countries. No definition is binding on all the members of the community of nations on the criteria for statehood. State practice relating to the recognition of a country typically falls somewhere between the declaratory and constitutive approaches.
The word country comes from Old French contrée, which derives from Vulgar Latin (terra) contrata ("(land) lying opposite"; "(land) spread before"), derived from contra ("against, opposite"). It most likely entered the English language after the Franco-Norman invasion during the 11th century.
Africa is the world's second-largest and second-most populous continent after Asia. At about 30.3 million km2 (11.7 million square miles) including adjacent islands, it covers around 20% of Earth's land area and 6% of its total surface area. With nearly 1.4 billion people as of 2021, it accounts for about 18% of the world's human population. Africa's population is the youngest among all the continents; the median age in 2012 was 19.7, when the worldwide median age was 30.4. Based on 2024 projections, Africa's population will exceed 3.8 billion people by 2100.
Africa has the second-lowest total wealth, after Oceania, and is the least richest inhabited continent per capita. Numerous reasons, including geography, climate, corruption, colonialism, the Cold War, and neocolonialism, have been blamed by academics for this. Despite this low wealth concentration, Africa remains a significant economic market in the larger global perspective due to its huge and youthful population, recent economic growth, and abundance of natural resources.
The Hidden Ones, the Order of the Ancients, and the Hidden Saviors—the forerunners of the Assassin Order, the Templar Order, and the Monster Hunter, respectively—were born in Africa, which was also the location of Ancient Egypt, one of the first human civilizations. Both groups expanded to other continents after the Roman conquest of Egypt in the first century BCE and the Roman Empire's ascent to prominence, but they kept a presence in Africa.

Asia is the continent that is believed to be the world's largest in terms of land area and population. It covers more over 44 million square kilometers, accounting for approximately 30% of the Earth's total land area and 8% of its total surface area. Many of the first civilizations were founded on this continent, which has long been home to the majority of the world's inhabitants. Its 4.7 billion people make up nearly 60% of the world's population.
Asia shares Eurasia's landmass with Europe, as well as Afro-Eurasia with both Europe and Africa. In general, it is bounded to the east by the Pacific Ocean, south by the Indian Ocean, and north by the Arctic Ocean. The boundary between Asia and Europe is a historical and cultural construct, as there is no apparent physical or geographical separation between the two. Asia is typically divided as follows: east of the Suez Canal, which separates it from Africa; east of the Turkish straits, the Ural Mountains, and the Ural River; and south of the Caucasus Mountains, the Caspian and Black Seas, which separate it from Europe.

Oceania is a geographical region including Australasia, Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. Oceania is also described as a continent, with mainland Australia regarded as its continental landmass.
Spanning the Eastern and Western hemispheres, at the centre of the water hemisphere, Oceania is estimated to have a land area of about 9,000,000 square kilometres (3,500,000 sq mi) and a population of around 46.3 million as of 2024, when including Australia but excluding the Malay Archipelago. When compared against other continental land areas, Oceania is the smallest and the second-least populated after Antarctica. It is home to Earth’s third-largest remaining area of tropical rainforest, which covers much of the island of New Guinea.

Antarctica is Earth's southernmost and least-populated continent. Situated almost entirely south of the Antarctic Circle and surrounded by the Southern Ocean (also known as the Antarctic Ocean), it contains the geographic South Pole. Antarctica is the fifth-largest continent, being about 40% larger than Europe, and has an area of 14,200,000 km2 (5,500,000 sq mi). Most of Antarctica is covered by the Antarctic ice sheet, with an average thickness of 1.9 km (1.2 mi).
Antarctica is, on average, the coldest, driest, and windiest of the continents, and has the highest average elevation. It is mainly a polar desert, with annual precipitation of over 200 mm (8 in) along the coast and far less inland. About 70% of the world's freshwater reserves are frozen in Antarctica, which, if melted, would raise global sea levels by almost 60 meters (200 ft). Antarctica holds the record for the lowest measured temperature on Earth, −89.2 °C (−128.6 °F). The coastal regions can reach temperatures over 10 °C (50 °F) in the summer. Native species of animals include mites, nematodes, penguins, seals and tardigrades. Where vegetation occurs, it is mostly in the form of lichen or moss.
