Hermitaur
“ The juvenile form of Daimyo Hermitaur, these small Carapaceons live around coastal areas and sandy soil. They often hide in sand, popping out of their hidey-holes only to claw at nearby intruders. The sizable shells they carry protect their vitals; as they grow in size, they'll move to larger dwellings to accommodate, such as monster skulls. The Carapaceon Brains they yield are quite the delicacy. Large Carapaceons that live in coastal regions and sandy soil. Daimyo Hermitaurs use their massive claws to guard themselves against enemy attacks. These creatures wear wyvern skulls on their backs, unlike the shells carried in their infancy. These shells serve not only as protection, but also as a method for attacking prey. They are highly valued for their materials—their brains in particular. ”

Hermitaur and Daimyo Hermitaur (Scutacenonepa dracocrusta) are fictional species of crustaceans introduced in Monster Hunter Dos. Some other forms of Daimyo Hermitaur includes Plum Daimyo Hermitaur, Stonefist Hermitaur and Zenith Daimyo Hermitaur. Their shell on its back was a Monoblos, a flying wyvern is now endangered species recently.
Etymology
The term "daimyo" is also sometimes used to refer to the leading figures of such clans, also called "lord". And Hermitaur is a combination of words between hermit and centaur, due to their two pairs of legs like a centaur.
Physical Appearance
Hermaitaur are hermit crab-like monsters with red carapaces and a thick white shell. The shell is grown by the crab itself; only when they grow much larger, into a Daimyo Hermitaur, will they replace it with a Monoblos skull, or into a Black Diablos skull if they grow into the Plum Daimyo Hermitaur. Hermitaurs are related to the Ceanataur, a blue Carapaceon that lives in Volcanic regions.
Daimyo Hermitaur has a large, crab-like body. It is covered in a red and white carapace and wears the skull of a Monoblos as a protective shell. It has broad, shield-like claws and long antennae.
Abilities
Hermitaurs are frequently seen with their claws digging through sand, presumably in search of food. A Hermitaur may wait under the ground for prey or a hunter to pass by before leaping out of hiding and striking them as they walk overhead. It can use its claws as shields to defend itself from attackers, and, as with the Monoblos, can also use them to dig into the earth in order to attack foes from below. It can shoot pressurized jets of water from its mouth and can use its massive weight to crush enemies.
Ecology
Daimyo Hermitaur primarily feed on smaller creatures and other resources for survival, including carrion and rarely humans. Though they prey on other creatures, Daimyo Hermitaur can sometimes serve as prey for monsters like Odibatorasu.
They have huge, thick claws capable of holding prey as well as shielding the giant crab from most any attacks. Daimyo Hermitaur's shell is also very tough, able to deflect the blows of most weapons. The one chink in the creature's armor is its soft hindquarters, where many of the creature's major organs are stored. To fix this problem, Daimyo Hermitaur will wear the skulls of dead wyverns on their backs. Acquiring the right size shell is a chore though, and occasionally Daimyo Hermitaur can be spotted with shells too large, or small for their bodies. Almost all of Daimyo Hermitaur's shells come from members of the larger species like Monoblos. Daimyo Hermitaur also possess surprisingly strong legs, able to move the creature with great speed if necessary. The legs assist the creature in digging holes and they are able to launch themselves many feet into the air, causing them to land vigorously on top of hunters who don't react fast enough.
Some unusual rare Daimyo Hermitaur have a dark redish color on their claws, darker legs and more shiny eyes. Along with this their shells are unusually covered in moss or algae. Like Plum Daimyo Hermitaur, they also share the ability to spit long streams of water. They use new attack techniques as their claws are much stronger than average, they use their claws in a shielded position much like a human boxing while walking at a target, these claws are reported to be so strong in this position that ranged projectiles fired from guns ricochet, along with this new smarter advancing technique they perform a very aggressive non stop side to side claw snapping attack behavior that out-speeds most attackers.
Behavior
When they are left undisturbed, Hermitaurs are most often seen picking through sand with their claws, presumably searching for food. Sometimes, a Hermitaur may wait under the ground for prey or a hunter to pass, jumping out from hiding and striking them when they walk overhead. A Hermitaur that is burrowed underground can be spotted by the puffs of dust that it regularly spits out. Daimyo Hermitaur is a rather neutral creature, sometimes failing to take notice of hunters standing only feet in front of it. Despite their size, Daimyo Hermitaur are fairly calm, when undisturbed. However, Daimyo Hermitaur will turn aggressive if they feel threatened or attacked.
Distribution and Habitat
They live mainly in Jungles and Deserts, usually near water, but can also be found in the cave systems of the Swamp. It prefers tropical to subtropical areas with sands and water such as the Old Desert and Jungle. In the Old World, they inhabit the Desert, Old Desert, Dunes, Old Jungle, Jungle, Tide Island, Kumbel Wetlands, Primal Forest, and Everwood. They've also been seen in the Deserted Island of the Old World.
