Blue Gypceros

Gypsolophos brontanthecticus

Blue Gypceros

These wyverns have the ability to produce startling bursts of light by striking their noticeable crests. Their volatile venom, which is produced in their lips, may readily dissolve any nearby flora, while their stretchy hide resists blunt strikes and reduces the effectiveness of electricity.

The Blue Gypceros or simply Gypceros (Gypsolophos brontanthecticus) is the fictional species of saurischian bird wyvern introduced in Monster Hunter 1.

Etymology

Gypceros is a Greek word for “plaster horn”, γύψος (gypsos), "plaster". Because the quarries of the Montmartre district of Paris have long furnished burnt gypsum (calcined gypsum) used for various purposes and kéras (κέρας) meaning 'horn'.

Physical Appearance

Among the largest and heaviest known Bird Wyverns, or saurischians, is the Gypceros. The lamp-like crest above its head and its stretchy, shock-resistant coat are two of its most distinctive characteristics. Its body is a consistent blue-grey color throughout, and it has a long, pink tail with a bulbous tip. It can create poisonous fluids to employ against assailants since it has a poison sac.

Of all the known bird wyverns, or avian wyverns, Gypceros is the heaviest. With a body form similar to that of the extinct Bajirisu but without a hard shell, it is the closest relative.

Abilities

Gypceros can use its luminous crest to produce dizzying flashes and temporarily disorient foes. Its elastic tail can extend and be used as a whip, and it can spit large globules of poison to intoxicate attackers. Due to its shock-resistant hide and flashing crest, it is immune to both shock traps and flash bombs.

Certain Gypceros have been observed to execute even more impressive ruses than the typical Gypceros, demonstrating their intellect through observation of how hunters employ status attack weapons. Its renowned "playing dead" performance is accompanied by appearances of being sleep deprived and immobilized. Beware, when a hunter breaks its crest and it tries to flash unsuccessfully, instead of the dizzying flash, it ignites a poison gas similar to the flaming gas that a Basarios uses to hunters.

Some individuals now enhance poison, which is more purple in color and depletes health at a faster rate than ordinary poison. In High-rank, it can immediately flash the hunter after a peck attack. In G-rank, it can spit a poison ball at the air and it lands on the ground many seconds later.

Weaknesses

The likelihood of finding a Lightcrystal increases when the crystal is broken on the head. The Gypceros's flash attack is prevented from being used if this crystal is broken. Once the crystal is broken, Gypceros will make an ineffective attempt at flashing. When low on stamina it will fail to spit poison and will fall after charging.

Ecology

Gypceros holds "middle ground" in the food chain. It is omnivorous and mainly feeds on insects and mushrooms. A particular favorite meal for a Gypceros is Flashbugs and Thunderbugs. Gypceros will also feed on stolen objects from hunters and other residents. Recently in the Val Habar region, it was discovered that Gypceros is the natural prey of Nerscylla, which has been observed skinning them after they get trapped in its web and using their hides as a crude form of armor.

At the Sunken Hollow in Area 5, there are 3 dead Gypceros hanging from webs made from Nerscylla, showing that Gypceros is Nerscylla's main prey. Gypceros sleeps in area 7 in the Sunken Hollow.

It has a crest on its head which the Gypceros can stimulate in order to produce a flash that can blind both prey and predators. It also has adapted to poison enemy's with the use of its internal poisonous sac. Unlike most other creatures, Gypceros has a thick, rubbery hide that renders electrical attacks and impacts ineffective. This peculiar hide may be a natural form of defense against the Khezu, which are also found in humid, swampy regions.

They also wield their beaked snouts as weapons. Its body is practically tubby and stocky, and its tail can reach unexpected lengths. Gypceros may have gecko-like or sticky feet because they have been observed sprinting up walls. Certain uncommon individuals possess a bigger tail end and a better developed poison sac that can form a brief but lethal poison puddle on the ground.

Behavior

The gypceros is an inherently shy animal. It is, nevertheless, quite cunning and clever, as shown by its readiness to seem to be dead in order to lure an adversary in for a surprise assault.

As previously mentioned, gypceros are naturally shy and inquisitive wyverns. They are not foolish, either, for sometimes when they engage in combat, they will appear dead to trick opponents into coming closer. Once the adversaries are duped, they will flail and inflict damage on their pursuers. Gypceros have a strong attraction to dazzling and glittering things. Because they are drawn to flashy objects, they have been observed pursuing hunters who are carrying enormous, dazzling crystals and rocks. This is because they sometimes steal shiny goods because they misidentify them as Flashbugs or Thunderbugs.

Distribution and Habitat

In the Old World Gypceros are found in the Swamps, Jungle, Forest and Hills, Ancestral Steppe, Sunken Hollow, Primal Forest, Kumbel Wetlands, Everwood, Ruined Ridge and Jurassic Frontier. These areas are warm, humid, and have plentiful sources of food such as insects for the Bird Wyverns to eat.

Gypceros was located in humid regions like Central Europe and Southeast Asia. Reported from ancient times in Fertile Crescent, one individual could blind foes with their glowing headdress like a torch.

Tamed

Gypceros were tranquilized by bullets and made unconscious, feed it while unconscious and used narcotics to continuously overdose. Gypceros are immediately domesticated when they hatch from an egg because the survivor is always within 17 radii of the hatching egg. If Gypceros isn't already tamed, you can train it with a whip for whipped, or eating some eggs, or bugs.

Since the survivor is always within 16 radii of Gypceros's egg, Gypceros are automatically domesticated when they hatch from an egg.
