Horatian Dolphin
“ I was a mermaid in my past-life! I definitely was. I don't know why I'm obsessed with them that much, which is why I think that somehow in my past-life I must have just lived underwater or something. Maybe I was a fish or a dolphin, but I do believe in mermaids. ”

The Horatian Dolphin (Tursiops horatica) is the one of the fictional species of dolphin introduced in Worldcraft: The Center.
The name is originally from Greek δελφίς (delphís), "dolphin", which was related to the Greek δελφύς (delphus), "womb". The animal's name can therefore be interpreted as meaning "a 'fish' with a womb". The name was transmitted via the Latin delphinus (the romanization of the later Greek δελφῖνος – delphinos), which in Medieval Latin became dolfinus and in Old French daulphin, which reintroduced the ph into the word "Dolphin". The term mereswine (that is, "sea pig") has also historically been used.
Singular: dolphin
Plural: dolphins
White-ash in color, Horatian dolphins can range in length from 2.6 to 4.9 meters (6.8 to 13.10 feet) and weight from 150 to 650 kilograms (330 to 1,430 pounds). In general, males are heavier and larger than females. Adults typically weigh between 200 and 500 kg (440 and 1,100 lb) and range in length from 2.5 to 3.5 m (8.2 to 11.5 ft) in most parts of the world.
High intelligence is exhibited by bottlenose dolphins, who can solve problems, recognize themselves, use tools (such as carrying a sponge), and communicate in sophisticated ways. They are able to hold their breath for five to twelve minutes. These dolphins have a 4- to 6-meter leap, which they employ for communication and possibly to get rid of parasites. Bottlenose dolphins are capable of swimming at speeds of 5 to 12 km/h, with bursts of up to 30 to 35 km/h. They use flippers for precision steering and strong up-and-down tail strokes.
The main sonar method used by dolphins to find prey is echolocation. Dolphins also communicate by making noises, such as squeaks from the blowhole, whistles from the nasal sacs beneath the blowhole, and noises from body language, like jumping out of the water and slapping their tails on the water. They have an oily coating on their heads that protects the braincase and serves as an acoustic lens. To ascertain the position and form of objects in the vicinity, including possible prey, they make clicking noises and listen for the return echoes.
Their heads contain an oily substance that both acts as an acoustic lens and protects the braincase. They emit clicking sounds and listen for the return echoes to determine the location and shape of nearby items, including potential prey. A tribe of Austral indigenous people on Mornington Island have been communicating with wild dolphins for millennia. They are said to have "a medicine man who calls the dolphins" and "speaks" to them telepathically. By these communications he ensures that the tribes' fortunes and happiness are maintained.
Like their natural predecessors, Horatian dolphins communicate by making noises with their bodies, such as jumping out of the water and slapping their tails on the water, as well as by making squeaks and whistles from the blowhole and nasal sacs beneath it. However, like Berbania's Rorquabirds, which are the Berbania equivalent of Earth's baleen whales, Horatian dolphins have excellent echolocation and use radar in their brains to pick up signals from other living things.
Although they can perish from dehydration outside of water, dolphins breathe air just like all other mammals and do not suffocate. Disease, biotoxins, pollution, habitat alteration, including freshwater incursions, vessel strikes, human feeding, harassment-causing activities, interactions with commercial and recreational fishing, energy exploration, oil spills, and other human disturbances, like underwater noise, are just a few of the many stressors and threats that they face.
The marine enemies of dolphins are scarce. Apex predators are those animals or populations that have none. It is important to use caution when extrapolating from these small study sites because the dangers may vary in severity among tributaries. The tucuxi swim in close-knit groups and live in tiny groups of ten to fifteen people, indicating a highly developed social organization. Similar to freshwater tucuxis, Horatian dolphins are highly active and can somersault, spy-hop, tail-splash, or leap clear of the water (a behavior called breaching). Because they are a highly gregarious species, Horatian dolphins live in groups called pods, which usually consist of 20 individuals. However, during brief periods of time, pod sizes can range from pairs of dolphins to over 150 or even 1,020 animals.
Mating system: Promiscuous; complex social courtship.
Gestation: About 10 months.
Calves: Born tail-first, about 1 m long. Nurse for 18–30 months.
Calving interval: Every 3–4 years.
Strong mother–calf bonds; calves learn hunting and social behaviors from mothers.
The Horatian dolphin is a very gregarious species that lives in groups called pods, which usually consist of 15 individuals. However, pod sizes can range from pairs of dolphins to over 100 or even 1,000 animals for brief periods of time. These group categories include groups of adult males, juvenile groups, and nursery groups. The dolphin may remain submerged until it drowns if it is unable to locate a way to retrieve an object that has been dropped. Like other gregarious animals, the entire pod retaliates if the survivor or another creature strikes a Horatian dolphin, attacking all at once.
In the merfolk kingdoms, Horatian dolphins, which are rare and found elsewhere in the northern hemisphere and not at the heart of the North Pole of Reinachos, were found to be guardians of merfolks. They are found primarily in shallow coastal and estuarine waters and in shallow reef complexes.

You cannot tame most dolphin species, except for common dolphin, orca, tucuxi, spotted dolphin, Commerson's dolphin, and bottlenose dolphin. Dolphins can be fed raw cod or pulled along with a lead that are tamed non-violently, rather than through a cordial and curious creature, it will slowly approach any survivor that is within radius. To tame it, you need to pet the creature twice, then feed it with fish or lobster meat.
