Etymology

Physical Appearance
Kulu-Ya-Ku has a body shape similar to other raptorial Bird Wyverns, such as Velocidrome. This monster is covered in light brown scales and has a face that greatly resembles a Dodo. There are feathers on its head and arms. It also has spikes on its tongue.
Kulu-Ya-Ku has four spikes on the back of its tongue, which are used to prevent egg yolk from spilling out when eating.
Abilities
Kulu-Ya-Ku is able to pick up small boulders and use them to protect itself from incoming attacks. It can also toss said boulders at foes from a distance or use a jumping slam to inflict stun. They are commonly spotted stealing eggs from Monster nests, especially those of the Rathian and others.
Kulu-Ya-Ku gain the ability to dig up and use ore chunks or flint rocks instead of a regular rock. Ore chunks inflict more physical damage and stun hunters more easily. Flint rocks on the other hand may combust on impact and cause damage in a small area. What factors into the type of rock Kulu-Ya-Ku pick is unknown, as the Bird Wyverns seem to able to pick up all three in all known habitats.
Weaknesses
By using Slinger Ammos, hunters can easily knock rocks out of the Kulu-Ya-Ku's hands. Hunters can also break the rock by hitting it multiple times with their weapon. Kulu-Ya-Ku's head and arms can be wounded.
Ecology
Kulu-Ya-Ku are exclusively ovivores, meaning they only eat eggs. They primarily feed on the eggs of Herbivores and Flying Wyverns, but have been observed eating ones from various species, including other Kulu-Ya-Ku. Daily a Kulu-Ya-Ku needs to feed on three to four eggs to survive but has to risk encountering large monsters to do so, avoiding large animals as a serious threat.
From Kulu-Ya-Ku living in a rugged environment, it has evolved strong muscular legs to aid it in leaping up and over cliffs. Since it is low in the food chain, Kulu-Ya-Ku has also brownish scales that help it to blend into the background of its environment. Kulu-Ya-Ku has three fingers on each of its hands, and the center one is the longest of the three. On the tips of its fingers are special protrusions used for grasping objects such as eggs. This bird wyvern is often called the Scratching Bird because it is known to dig into the ground to find rocks.
Although its ability to pick up and use objects is impressive, its greatest strength is likely its sensitive, nerve-filled beak. With this beak, Kulu-Ya-Ku can detect slight changes in the environment and find the exact location of a hidden object, which is how it easily locates items such as boulders underground, evidenced by it pecking at the ground before digging up an object out of the ground during a battle. It also has two rows of spikes on its tongue to prevent egg yolk from escaping its mouth.
Behavior
Unlike other raptorial bird wyverns, Kulu-Ya-Ku are very docile and calm when coming into contact with hunters. If attacked, however, they will fight back.
Distribution and Habitat
Kulu-Ya-Ku primarily inhabit the Wildspire Waste but will venture into the Ancient Forest for various reasons. Kulu-Ya-Ku have been observed entering the Ancient Forest during the Jagras breeding season or, more recently, when they sense immense energy within the are.

Since the survivor is always within 16 radii of the hatching sac, Kulu-Ya-Ku are automatically domesticated when they hatch from an egg.
