Red-tailed Black Shark (Epalzeorhynchos bicolor) is the species of shark carp endemic to Thailand and currently critically endangered, but common in aquaria.

Etymology

Despite the name, this is not close relative to real sharks and bull sharks. There are carps. From the genus name: Epalzeorhynchos: Greek, epalzes, -es, -es = curative + Greek, rhyngkhos = snout. And in specific name from Greek: bi = double, kolor = color.

Physical Appearance

This carp where it is prized for its deep black body and vivid red or orange tail.

Abilities

Didn't have to known this animal.

Ecology

Red tail sharks tend to bully slow-moving, timid, long-finned, and small fish, like angelfish, fancy guppies, and bettas. Invertebrates and mollusks shouldn't be added to the tank or in their natural habitat because red tail sharks eat them because of that small but terrible apex predator. Quite often red-tailed sharks are sold as algae eaters and they are omnivorous.

Behavior

These carps have a reputation for being aggressive and bullying other fish. Passive towards a larger one.

Distribution and Habitat

This fish is endemic to Thailand and is found in the Chao Phraya River as far south as Bangkok.

Tamed

The carp can be tamed in a fish basket used for petting and put in your own artificial lake.
