Chameleos, or Khameleos (Chameleodraco obscurum), is one of the Elder Dragons introduced in Monster Hunter Dos. They are tricky elder dragons well-known for being master thieves. It was introduced as the protagonist in Weather Dragons: The Last Special Heritage of the Romanovs and as the deuteragonist in Worldcraft: Fairytale's Ending.

Etymology

Chameleons are a bit off compared to real-life chameleons since they can move very fast, unlike chameleons' slow nature. However, when no danger is present, chameleons tend to move slowly and cautiously while camouflaged, much like real-life chameleons. Despite its namesake, its appearance is based on Uroplatus (leaf-tailed geckos).


The English word Chameleos (/kəˈmiːliəuz/ kuh-MEEL-ee-ous) is just chameleon (/kəˈmiːliən/ kuh-MEEL-ee-un) is a simplified spelling of Latin chamaeleōn, a borrowing of the Ancient Greek χαμαιλέων (khamailéōn), a compound of χαμαί (khamaí) "on the ground" and λέων (léōn) "lion"; and -ōs, the suffix accusative masculine plural of -us.

Physical Appearance

Chameleos's body is covered by a purple and white hide, and its head ends with a protruding horn at the tip of its nose. Its eyes are similar to a real-life chameleon's: large and orb-like, with the ability to control eye movement individually. The long and elastic tongue can extend to grasp and steal items from a distance. Its wings are a purple color with a grayish white membrane and are used for flight and controlling the direction of its poison fog. Chameleos's large tail is reminiscent of a leaf and has a curled, spiraling tip.

Abilities

Chameleos has the ability to camouflage itself by using the electric currents running through its skin, refracting light in the mist, and thus making its body invisible. This camouflaging ability is disabled if its horn is broken and the tail is severed. Known for using mist for protection, Chameleos's breath can create a thick fog to impair visibility as well as form dangerous toxic clouds.


When Chameleos beats its tail on the ground, it will try to steal an item immediately after finishing. The stretching tongue is adept at stealing items and also steals Spiribird buffs from hunters, though this can be prevented with the Anti-Theft skill. It can also spit out acid blobs to reduce defense and expel gas that inflicts stamina-lowering fatigue. Fanning or beating its tail can cause high-pressure wind (much like Kushala Daora's wind barrier). Chameleos has no roar.


Chameleos also possess an extra vocal cord paralysis poison in their upper fangs, causing them to be deaf and muting, causing the hunter to be unable to speak or chat in game, along with being unable to use music or sonic bombs.

Weaknesses

Sonic bombs or concussion scream bombs detonating near Chameleos while it is in the middle of an attack cause it to flinch and turn it completely visible for roughly one minute. There is also a chance that chameleos may drop a shiny when this happens. This can be done regardless of whether Chameleos is in Rage Mode or not.

Ecology

Chameleos are ambush hunters, waiting patiently for prey to pass by while they blend perfectly into their surroundings. Chameleos can and will eat almost anything, and they can use different tactics to take down varying sizes of prey. Should its prey be an insect such as a Vespoid, Altaroth, Bnahabra, Konchu, or other kinds, it will simply snatch it out of the air using its long, sticky tongue. If it is a supply camp, it'll steal with each opportunity it gets. Chameleos are different from other Elder Dragons, as they are not nearly as "elegant" in their appearance as other Elder Dragon species. Chameleos have a number of biological adaptations that make them extremely unique. Most notable is the Chameleos's trademark camouflage mechanism.


Each species of Chameleos has a different way of camouflaging itself. By generating a weak electric current in its skin that interacts with the mist it can breathe, the Elder Dragon can bend light around itself, rendering it effectively invisible. Some Chameleos use special ore to enable their camouflage. This illusion is not, however, perfect. If Chameleos sustains significant damage or dismemberment to its tail or horn, it can lose this ability altogether. Chameleos also lose their stealth if poisoned. Chameleos have independently moving eyeballs that protrude from the sides of their heads to create a wider field of vision. Chameleos have several nasty defenses should they ever come under attack. Its acid is incredibly potent, capable of dissolving all but rock. For hunters, this often means severe armor degradation and severely decreased stamina.


They possess an extremely strong poison, which can be released from its mouth at will and is often whipped into a thick cloud by the dragon's wings. Some Chameleos also possess extra vocal cord paralysis poison in their upper fangs, like a snake. Finally, it can exhale large amounts of mist to further hinder the vision of hunters, allowing it to either make a swift getaway or launch a surprise attack with ease. Some rare individuals have the strange ability to make floating stamina-draining bubbles come from the ground around them when angered. They appear to be more intelligent, as they will use their tongue to launch hunters into the air and form a toxic cloud aimed at the launched hunter. Their abilities to make acid globs and poison stamina-draining spray are also improved, as they can spit three globs at once and make a wider spray.


This Chameleos evolved into a Verechelen, the serpentine Elder Dragon with angelic wings and a very long horn on their nose with very bright colors, which is more poisonous and instantly kills Zmey Gorynych.

Behavior

Chameleos in battle tend to have a jittery nature that makes it fairly unpredictable for hunters. During this odd behavior, it will constantly try to steal items and poison unlucky hunters. Rare sightings claim it is peaceful and often avoids combat unless necessary. Chameleos are very intelligent creatures. They will wait patiently at a spot of importance, such as a water source or a natural crossroads, waiting for prey to pass by. Chameleos are well known for stealing items from hunters. Chameleos do this in order for the hunter to lose motivation for hunting them down.

Distribution and Habitat

Chameleos became extinct when the real Princess Anastasia and Sir Dimitri were killed in 1918 during the execution of the Romanov family by Horned King Arnoldus, in Chuvashia Republic by Bolsheviks and Zmey Gorynych, only lead the tragedy romance of World War II. However, Lyudmila Pavlichenko rediscovered that the Elder Dragon is not extinct on Earth; many people didn't believe it until they resolved a mystery.


Both Constantin Sănătescu and Mihai of Romania found one individual in Sawintir. In the future of the Worldcraft series, most Chameleos were found and introduced in Reinachos for unknown reasons by Louis Alphonse de Bourbon's descendants. Chameleos were found in tropical and subtropical locations, like the jungle, forest, and hills. Occasionally, it has been sighted in the swamp.


The Chameleos's habitat range is restricted to tropical and subtropical environments such as swamps, jungles, primal forests, everwood, ruined ridges, forests, and hills. The beast will not venture into these temperate climates, and it doesn't appear capable of surviving in environmental extremes.

Bereshit - 11009 BCE-2024 AD

Project Pashneia, a scientific attempt by the Terran branch of Deities to construct any animals, monsters, or humans in terms of their own, produced this creature, which the Chuvash called shchelen but which the Agents of Shield called Chameleos. It was the ultimate weapon, and it was the Elder Dragon. The royal family that owns this species is also protected by the use of this biological weapon in military operations. Russian Revolution - 1907 AD – Jun 16, 1923 AD

Rediscovering of Chameleos in Colombia - 30 August 2023 AD

Isabella and Varian sacrificed both lives to each other with small claymores, saving the rest of their lives, causing them to be gifted with magic, and ceased war. Immediately after both deaths, Belle does fear everywhere and is exposed by Marissa Villaroel and Lorenzo Villaroel to arrest her in Nueva Dunedin International City Jail as a case of treason, along with Camilo Madrigal and Varian Debussie.


Under Princess Belle from removing the penances with Camilo, Rapunzel and Varian with Kevin; the Germans, Dutch people, Flemings, Swiss people, Danes, Belgians, Italians, Russians, Papuans, Aeta, Javanese people, Pygmies, Middle-earth Elves, Hungarians, Ilocanos, French people, Spaniards, Monegasques, Romanis, Swedes, Scottish People, Cornish People, Galicians, American People, Welsh People, Hungarians, Azerbaijanis, Frisians, Romanis, Maltese people, Tainos, Black Americans, Jamaicans, Hondurans, Tamils and Indonesians join forces with animals and monsters to fight for prevention of evil magic in the deep glowing forests, the Birthjections and Bhonsalthes rose up from insurrection and join Dominic’s side. She knows that Amethista was killed by Rothbart’s black Snallygaster as a sign of vengeance. Clementelle and Dominic were dueling Rothbart before he left for Mount Anastacio of Fharewalovia. The gang celebrates their victory and Lancelot and Isabella’s birthday, as well as Joringel's heroic matters from Rothbart and named Hector.


This Elder Dragon was an alliance of Isabella Morrison and Archie Buenaventura, later formed by Princess Belle to protect Princess Odette and her friends from Rothbart, and his daughter Odile brought Hybornia's confirmed plagues.
