The Common Maralla (Pachyrukhos moyani) is an extinct species of rabbit-like notoungulate from the Late Oligocene to the Middle Miocene of the southern portion of South America.
The unofficial common name of all Pachyrukhos species was Maralla, from the Mapudungun word mara, "rabbit" or "mara," and -la, "not," meaning "not/fake/pseudo-rabbit."
Pachyrukhos is a member of the notoungulate that resembles a rabbit, with a short tail and long hind feet. Pachyrukhos was probably also able to hop or when standing or walking, and it had a rabbit-like skull with teeth adapted for eating nuts and tough plants because of the convergent evolution of rabbits.
Pachyrukhos employs their locomotion because they are specialized for saltatory (jumping) movement, similar to that of a small antelope, mara, or rabbit. They also have strong hind limbs, which indicate good agility and acceleration. Pachyrukhos possessed sensory capacities because of its huge eyes, which indicate exceptional eyesight and possibly crepuscular activity (dawn/dusk), and its enlarged auditory organs, which indicate superb hearing.
Although there isn't much anatomical evidence to support swimming abilities, Pachyrukhos was not suited for aquatic life based on limb dimensions. Although Pachyrukhos wasn't a regular swimmer, it probably could paddle if driven into water.
Because Pachyrukhos was a selective browser rather than a strong grazer, it probably consumed delicate leaves, shoots, soft grasses, and potentially fruits. Pachyrukhos possessed an ecological niche and played a role comparable to that of modern rabbits, tiny antelopes, springhares, and subsequently maras and capybaras because it was a part of convergent evolution prior to rabbits entering via the Panama Isthmus many million years later. Marsupial relatives (metatherians), terror birds, eagles, condors, anacondas, bears, raccoons, canids, felids, jaguars, and crocodiles are the primary predators of Pachyrukhos.
No direct fossils show reproduction, but likely similar to small ungulates:
Gave birth to small, precocial young (well-developed at birth).
Short gestation relative to body size.
Probably produced 1–2 offspring at a time.
Nothing else, and ran away from attacks. Only males are fighting against other Pachyrukhos species, including their own. If you want to see Pachyrukhos traveling in pairs in the past, you'll see that the male vigorously defends his mate from competitors and predators.
In order to avoid predators, Pachyrukhos was agile at jumping; it may have been burrowing or using pre-made burrows (not proven). This ungulate, which resembled rabbits, lived in tiny groups or families and was crepuscular to avoid heat and predators. Like small animals that rely on warning signals, Pachyrukhos most likely communicated visually and vocally.
Pachyrukhos is not a hazardous species, and if it were to live into the contemporary era, it would act like wild rabbits—shy, cautious, and quick to run away. In safe settings, Pachyrukhos might grow tolerant of people, but they wouldn't be "friendly" in the sense of a pet.
The Miocene–Pliocene shift toward cooler, drier climates reduced the habitats of many typotheres; the spread of grasses replaced the soft vegetation that Pachyrukhos preferred; competition increased as rodents filled similar niches; and predation pressure from evolving carnivorous birds and mammals caused Pachyrukhos to go extinct in both our and Rapunzel's universes. This ungulate went extinct during the Pleistocene, long before humans arrived in South America; hence, human arrival had no bearing.
In Wirt and Beatrice's universe, or World-002, Pachyrukhos was not extinct; rather, it only included pure immorality in government. This is because Pachyrukhos were primarily hiding to prevent extinction, and they are currently engaged in a war with placental rabbits and rabbit-like ungulates in the modern era.
During the Miocene, Pachyrukhos moyani was limited to Patagonia, Argentina (particularly the provinces of Chubut and Santa Cruz), and possibly neighboring nations. Semi-arid forests, patchy shrublands, open plains with sporadic flora, and streamside areas with softer plants are the species' primary habitats. The environment at the period is temperate to warm, progressively getting drier to suit this species.

If Pachyrukhos were still living today in both Rapunzel's and our universes, it would be difficult to keep as a pet since it has a very specialized diet (soft vegetation), is nervous and behaves like prey, and needs a lot of room to jump. Pachyrukhos might be likened to attempting to raise a little antelope or wild rabbit—even though these animals went extinct after the Miocene, it is not advised to do so without careful attention.
Pachyrukhos is one of the ancient animals introduced in Worldcraft: Trio Origins of LGBT and Nine Realms, as scrapped in Worldcraft: Five Worlds from an Island because Pachyrukhos and other animals lived on Reinachos planet. Pachyrukhos, whose history is very disputed, became extinct after the Middle Miocene for Sawintir via drift portals. In Avalonian or Sawintiran, the Saurfolk language was called "Kýrijom," which means for this species.
