“ With their sharp claws and powerful limbs, these fanged wyverns—whose bodies are striped with electricity—are able to flourish in mountainous environments. They collect a lot of thunderbugs while hunting in order to increase their strength and become supercharged. ”

The Zinogre (Fulgurocaniops dominus) is a fictional species of saurischian wyvern introduced in Monster Hunter Portable 3rd.
The name Zinogre is simply a transliteration of the original Japanese name, ジンオウガ (Jin'ōga). The first half of the Japanese name could either be jin (kanji: 神 / kana: ジン), meaning "deity" (which hints its mythological inspiration), or jin (kanji: 迅 / kana: ジン), meaning "quick". The second half could be the Japanese transliteration of ogre, since Zinogre is heavily built and possesses brute strength. In Maori was called "Tīenōka" / "迅鬼", Hawaiian is "Kīe-ōʻa", and in Korean was "진오우거." This name was coined by American Protestant missionaries in Nihon after World War 2.
At first glance, Zinogre appears to be a quadrupedal creature with lupine traits. Its claws, fangs, and highly developed limbs are all present. Its formidable forelegs are capable of killing prey with a single, vicious strike. Zinogre is incredibly agile and capable of numerous amazing aerial and ground-based moves despite its massive size. Its body has spikes that are primarily flat, but when an electric charge builds up, they protrude vertically into the air.
Zinogre seems very wolf-like if one looks at its face, and has a very muscular set of forelimbs - very comparable to those of big cats. It has surprising agility for such a large monster, similar to Nargacuga. It has sharp claws attached to strong muscular fore-limbs, which are used to deliver a fatal blow to prey and hunters. It also helps them to climb mountains and rocky terrain. They are also very sturdy creatures, taking brutal attacks from its competitors, before retaliating with equal ferocity.
Zinogre is special because it can 'charge' itself by calling forth thunderbugs nearby and using their inherent electrical powers for its own advantage. During this process, its claws will glow blue, just like the patterns on its back. If Zinogre sustains enough damage, this charge can be lost; in that case, it becomes significantly less aggressive (at least until it can build up another charge). At some point, Zinogre will try to collect thunderbugs to boost its attack power if the charge is gone. Zinogre is open to assaults while in this charging condition, and hunters have about 6-7 seconds to stop the process and knock Zinogre down.
There are two stages to the charge: if Zinogre charges up again, a stronger charge will build after the initial, lesser preliminary charge. Zinogre gains greater agility and deals damage in accordance with each charge state, but be careful—even in its ultimate charge state, Zinogre is capable of going into a classic angry condition. Its body will now flash an electric blue, and the potency of its assaults will grow even more. Thunder will result from its electrical attacks on the hunter.
It is possible to tell which of Zinogre's states of charge by looking at him; following the first charge, a lot of Thunderbugs flutter around his body, and following the second, all of his fur stands on end in spiked clumps to release further electricity. Zinogre gains a new attack where it will flip send hunters flying with one of its front legs while electricity will appear on its sides.
Zinogre gains a new attack where it does a small jump and spins to hit hunters with its tail. After Zinogre does a body slam attack, lightnings will strike around the Zinogre. It gains a new super move where it performs two electric slams with its front legs before performing its flip attack.
Zinogre's roar requires Earplugs to block.

When the Zinogre is tripped, bugs can be harvested from its back using a Bug Net.
In Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, the Capture Net must be fired from the Slinger to harvest bugs, but in Monster Hunter Rise, bugs are simply grabbed off the back like any dropped material.
Using Shock Traps on Zinogre will actually help it charge up faster. Each use adds two stages of charge to Zinogre, and in addition they are ineffective when Zinogre is already fully charged (they will explode on contact, presumably from becoming over-charged). Although Zinogre can still be captured with a Shock Trap, Pitfall Traps are a safer option.
A top predator known to prowl both the Old and New World, Zinogre is likely quite high in the food chain and only troubled by other apex predators such as Rathalos, Nargacuga and Tigrex. Yet, despite being forced to share their hunting grounds with other Predators, Zinogre is rather formidable itself, as those found in the New World have been shown holding their own against both Rathalos and the ever aggressive Diablos, two very powerful monsters in their own right, simultaneously. In the Guiding Lands, it is seen battling evenly against other powerful apexes such as Glavenus, Brachydios, Yian Garuga and their subspecies.
Arzuros, a monster well known in Yukumo, is very wary of this monster as Zinogre view them as prey, firmly solidifying its role as an apex predator in the Misty Peaks. Only Elder Dragons such as Kushala Daora and Namielle can cause Zinogre to take cover, while encounters with invaders such as Savage Deviljho and Rajang may also cause the Thunder Wolf Wyvern to retreat. In particular, the presence of the Elder Dragon known as Amatsu has been theorized as the cause of large Zinogre populations to retreat down the Mountains. The favorite prey of Zinogre is Bird Wyverns, in particular Gargwa. Zinogre is famous for its battles with the "Bubble Fox Wyvern" Mizutsune. In both Shrine Ruins and Citadel the Lunagaron can equally match the Zinogre in combat, usually leading to a tie.
The average size of an adult Zinogre is approximately 1455.4cm.
It can also harness the power of electricity, much like a Lagiacrus, using it to take down larger prey and to defend itself and its territory. Thunderbugs are seen gathering around Zinogre when it is "charging" electricity; they may act as a source of energy. Also, Gargwa are known to eat Thunderbugs, so it is possible that Zinogre has a special relationship with Thunderbugs. As Zinogre preys on Gargwa, Thunderbugs become safe, simply by flying around in close proximity to a Zinogre. Zinogre can exploit this by absorbing the energy emitted by the bugs during battle, granting it special abilities. Thunderbugs might glow blue instead of their normal color to indicate that they have allied with a Zinogre.
Zinogre's body is highly conductive of electricity, but it cannot produce any on its own. As a result, it shares a symbiotic relationship with Thunderbugs, which supply it with the electrical energy it needs in exchange for protection.
If you look closely at a Zinogre, you can see an energy field around it. Juvenile Zinogre has more hair on their bodies compared to adults and is white in color. It is believed that the increased hair protects the juvenile's shell and helps speeds up the storage of electricity. This fur will shed as the juvenile Zinogre matures into adulthood. Whenever they become enraged their claws somehow change shape and the reason for this greatly puzzles scientists. In a supercharged state, they seem to glow, internally and externally. When supercharged the spikes on their backs erect in order to release excess electricity so that they don't injure themselves or possibly die from too much electricity surging in their bodies. When and if they do die in this state the Thunderbugs will flee, sensing their protector is dead and will seek another Zinogre to protect them.
As lone hunters, Zinogre scavenge their region in search of prey. They are hostile and will assault anyone they see entering. Zinogre is the strongest of the animals. Zinogre are known to have a rivalry with Mizutsune and their kinds and variants. It is also powerful and brave enough to face the Amatsu, Kushala Daora, and Rathalos.
Zinogre's preferred habitat is the Sacred Pinnacle and Misty Peaks forests and wetlands of the Old World, also it has been spotted in the Deserted Island of the New World as well when they migrate from the Misty Peaks during winter.
Zinogre has also been spotted in the Val Habar region and in the Siki Country located within the Old World. Here they are seen inhabiting the Heaven's Mount, Primal Forest, Sanctuary, Forest and Hills, Great Forest, Frozen Seaway, Jurassic Frontier, Jungle, Everwood and Ruined Ridge. Zinogre has recently begun appearing in the Coral Highlands, Ancient Forest, and Guiding Lands of the continental new world.
