The Gray Slothbat (Nychteridocnus elizabethi; Enchancian: Fhülia Elizabethá) or Elizabeth's Slothbat is the fictional species of first time aerial sloth introduced in Weather Dragons, as now canon creature.
The flying sloth was named after Queen Elizabeth II before she died recently.
Gray flysloths are one of the few species of xenarthrans that have wings. Gray flysloth had grayish-brown fur, a pale brownish-white underbelly, thin arms, two-fingered wing-fingers and three fingers for climbing, a thin body, plantigrade legs with gray sock patterns, a bushy tail, a dark brown snout, and dark brown eyes.
Like skunks in an ecological niche, the flysloth can fart on itself and towards the enemy to repel bad odors. In search of fruiting trees, the flysloth can travel tens of kilometers at night. Flysloths may find fruit and flowers thanks to their keen vision and sense of smell. Although they can paddle and stay afloat if needed, flysloths generally avoid swimming. Although it is uncommon, these sloths have been seen swimming short distances to go to roosting locations or avoid predators. Strong claws enable them to climb branches and hang upside down for roosting, just like sloths and bats.
Fruits are almost the only food source for gray flysloths. Nectar, seeds, and pollen are added to this. Although flysloths do swoop down near the ground during flight and may approach humans or other creatures, you shouldn't be scared and should instead move away if you feel uneasy.
Breeding varies by region but generally:
One pup per year (twins are extremely rare).
Gestation lasts about 5–6 months.
Mothers carry their pups for the first few weeks, then leave them in the roost while foraging.
Flysloths are social creatures that groom one another and use sounds and wing flapping to communicate, in contrast to the other sloth species, which are solitary. During the breeding season, males may protect tiny areas inside a roost. They glide more than they flap, making flight energy-efficient. Unless they are touched or threatened, flysloths are not hostile.
They stay away from people and will take off if someone approaches them. Handling them might cause tension, thus it's best to avoid touching wild animals. They may put up with caregivers when they are hurt or recovering, but they do not "domesticate."
Deforestation (especially lowland forests).
Hunting for bushmeat in parts of Everrealm.
Persecution due to fruit crop conflict.
Climate events such as heat waves causing mass die-offs.
IUCN Red List: Endangered (EN)
Habitat protection.
Anti-poaching enforcement.
Rescue and rehabilitation centers.
Awareness campaigns against illegal pet trade and farming.
Protected in some countries, but enforcement varies.
The western portion of Sawintir's Eastern Continent is home to gray flysloths. Mangroves, coastal regions, and tropical and subtropical woods are their primary habitats. Large roosting trees close to water sources are preferred by them.
