Gigantopithecus blacki is an extinct genus and species of orangutan-like ape that lived in central to southern China from 2 million to approximately 200,000–300,000 years ago during the Early to Middle Pleistocene.
Gigantopithecus, also known as Lohauliah, was first introduced in Historya Davvun series as part of Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure sequel set in the 1990s.
The word Gigantopithecus means 'giant ape'; from Ancient Greek γίγας (gígas), meaning 'giant', and πίθηκος (píthekos), meaning 'ape'. The specific name blacki is in honour of Canadian palaeoanthropologist Davidson Black, who had studied human evolution in China and had died the previous year. Von Koenigswald, working for the Dutch East Indies Mineralogical Survey on Java, had found the teeth in a drugstore in Hong Kong where they were being sold as "dragon bones" to be used in traditional Chinese medicine.
The word Lohauliah is from Hmong 'loj hav zoov liab', means 'big forest ape.'
Due to its distinct ecological niche in Asia, Gigantopithecus blacki is an extinct ape species that resembles a contemporary orangutan. It has long arms and small legs, making it more reminiscent of a gorilla than an orangutan. First of all, it is an extinct ape species that resembles bigfoot or enormous chimpanzees. However, it was an orangutan that roamed East Asia for many years and may have spread to Southeast Asia. Unlike orangutans, who are arboreal animals, Gigantopithecus' enormous body prevents it from climbing trees.
The closest relative of this species is the three species of orangutans in Southeast Asia.
Because of its enormous body and mass, Gigantopithecus is stronger than a gorilla or an orangutan. It can only climb cliffs and the edges of walls, not trees. It could devour thick vegetation and even bones because to its enormous jaw and big teeth. Gigantopithecus can jump higher than humans, orangutans, gorillas, gibbons, and chimpanzees, but it has a potential of trembling like an earthquake and destroying traffic lights, scaffoldings, electric posts, or cell towers.

Like modern giant pandas or gorillas, it was purely herbivorous and ate primarily bamboo, fruits, roots, and leaves. It probably walked on all fours like an orangutan, not fully upright like humans. The primary Gigantopithecus' predators, aside from prehistoric humans, are sabertooth cats, tigers, leopards, wolves, dholes, crocodiles, and pythons, which hunt both adults and young. May have faced extinction due to climate change and loss of bamboo forests.
Gigantopithecus has become popular in cryptozoology circles as the identity of the Tibetan yeti or the American bigfoot, apelike creatures in local folklore, are descendants of this species.
Unlike orangutans, Gigantopithecus lived in bands or battalions, typically headed by a dominant male. A male serves as the group's primary leader, protecting them and making crucial choices. Female apes tend to their offspring, and during the first few years of life, babies cling to their mothers. This species uses a variety of communication methods, such as body language, chest thumping, hoots, and grunts.
Gigantopithecus are not inherently violent creatures. In actuality, they are frequently calm, timid, and gentle, especially when allowed to remain in their native environment. However, due of their strength—a single mature male can be 12 times stronger than a gorilla—they are wild animals who primarily roar or scream.
Gigantopithecus blacki went extinct between 295,000 and 215,000 years ago in southern China.
Climate and Environmental Shifts: Between 700,000 and 600,000 years ago, increased seasonal variability transformed dense, closed-canopy forests into more open, mixed shrub- and grasslands.
Scarcity of Preferred Food: As the climate grew drier, the lush fruits and vegetation that Gigantopithecus relied upon became harder to find.
Dietary Inflexibility: Unlike coexisting agile primates such as orangutans—which adjusted their diets to include leaves and flowers—Gigantopithecus failed to adapt its preferences.
Massive Size and Low Mobility: Weighing up to 300 kilograms and standing roughly 3 meters tall, the massive ape could not easily climb trees to forage for alternative food sources.
Chronic Stress: Forced to rely on low-nutrition "fallback" foods like tough bark and twigs, the population suffered chronic dental stress, dwindling numbers, and eventual demographic collapse.
Gigantopithecus lived from roughly 2.3 million to about 295,000–215,000 years ago during the Early to Middle Pleistocene epoch in Southern China (with fossil or related remains also indicated across parts of Southeast Asia, such as Vietnam and Thailand). They lived in dense, humid, subtropical and tropical closed-canopy evergreen broadleaf forests.

After creating humans and changing all animal species, the Isu implanted artificial neurotransmitters in all animals' brains in Projects Anthropos and Pashnea. This method kills all purebred and natural animal species, even those that appear natural and unmanufactured. The Apples of Eden have mental dominion over all species, including humans, because they can control the brain via their interactions with neurotransmitters.
Gigantopithecus is one of the animals that was altered and used as a beast of burden by the First Civilization or the Isu in the Pleistocene. Despite being born naturally, the Isu have proclaimed all remaining purebred animal species to be genetically modified. Members of the Assassin Order, Templar Knights, and Monster Hunter members researched the origins of all animals and discovered that, because they are pure natural breeds, from animals and monsters are actually genetically engineered creatures.

The First Civilization race, also known as the Isu race, a species of godlike hominid, which had been hunting ground sloths for sport from prehistoric times on both Earth and Everrealm, wiped them out before Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure series and the sequels related to Rapunzel. Before humans and elves existed, exotic animals from all over the world—such as elephants, mammoths, mastodons, monitor lizards, leopards, sabertooth cats, hippos, bears, ground sloths, toxodonts, terror birds, kangaroos, crocodiles, and other larger fauna like Elder Dragons—were confiscated and brought to what may have been West Asia or near the Garden of Eden (a prehistoric city called by Rapunzel while with her family in West Asia) for use in hunting games called venationes.
Gigantopithecus is one of the few non-Mesozoic species introduced in this episode of the No Way to Seaway series take in the 2010s. The term "Heartless" refers to a black-eyed, sterile creature created by the First Civilization race, but there are replicas and being inbreed and entirely artificial, with pure black eyes that resemble voids. These creatures are similar to the Construct species but lack Wylk energy and have normal coloration.
