Served with mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles, this dish is ideal for a family dinner or a cozy weekend meal. You can also make them in advance and freeze them for an easy weeknight dinner.
1/2 lb ground beef
1/2 lb ground pork
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 large egg
2 tablespoons olive oil (for frying)
For the sauce:
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 tablespoon soy sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onion, allspice, salt, pepper, and egg. Mix until well combined.
Roll the meat mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs to the skillet and cook for 6-8 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides and cooked through. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set them aside.
In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, until golden brown.
Gradually whisk in the beef broth, heavy cream, and soy sauce, making sure to scrape up any brown bits from the bottom of the skillet.
Bring the sauce to a simmer and cook for 3-4 minutes, until it thickens slightly. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Return the meatballs to the skillet, spooning the sauce over them. Simmer for another 5-7 minutes, until the meatballs are heated through and coated in the creamy sauce.
Serve the Swedish meatballs with mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles, and garnish with fresh parsley, if desired.
