This Honey Walnut Shrimp is the perfect combination of crispy shrimp, a sweet honey glaze, and crunchy, caramelized walnuts. The shrimp is lightly battered and fried to golden perfection, providing a satisfying crunch, while the honey sauce adds a smooth, sweet richness that perfectly complements the savory shrimp. The addition of toasted walnuts gives the dish a delightful crunch and a nutty contrast to the sweetness of the honey. This dish is best served as a special appetizer or as a main course with steamed rice or veggies. You can also substitute the shrimp with chicken or tofu for a different variation, and adjust the sweetness of the honey sauce to suit your taste.
1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
1/2 cup cornstarch
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup water
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
1/4 cup honey
1 tablespoon mayonnaise
1 tablespoon sweetened condensed milk
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for frying)
In a small bowl, combine the cornstarch, flour, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Add water and mix until you form a smooth batter.
Dip each shrimp into the batter, coating evenly, and set aside.
In a frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Once hot, fry the shrimp in batches for 2-3 minutes per side or until golden brown and crispy. Remove shrimp from the pan and set aside on a paper towel-lined plate.
In the same pan, toast the chopped walnuts over medium heat for 1-2 minutes until golden brown. Remove from the pan and set aside.
In a small saucepan, combine honey, mayonnaise, sweetened condensed milk, and lemon juice. Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, until the sauce is smooth and warmed through.
Toss the fried shrimp in the honey sauce until fully coated.
Garnish the shrimp with toasted walnuts and serve immediately.
