1 ½ lbs ground beef
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon onion powder
Salt and pepper to taste
2 cups milk, divided
¼ cup all-purpose flour
4-5 medium russet potatoes, thinly sliced
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
In a bowl, mix the ground beef with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Shape the mixture into 6 patties.
In a skillet, brown the patties on both sides, but do not fully cook through. Set the browned patties aside.
In the same skillet, whisk together 1 cup of milk and the flour until smooth. Slowly whisk in the remaining 1 cup of milk to form a gravy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Layer half of the thinly sliced potatoes in the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Top with half of the sliced onions.
Place the browned hamburger patties on top of the onions.
Add the remaining potato slices and onions on top of the patties.
Pour the prepared gravy evenly over the entire dish.
Cover the dish with foil and bake for 1 hour.
Remove the foil, top with shredded cheddar cheese, and bake uncovered for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Let the casserole sit for a few minutes before serving.
