Transhumanism is often used as a synonim for Human Enhancement. Naturally, transhumanism brings in posthumans. I am not quite comfortable with that, and feel closer to Kurzweil's vision: [The Singularity] represent the culmination of the merger of our biological thinking and existence with our technology, resulting in a world that is still human but that transcends our biological roots."

And I am not alone: even the founders of the World Transhumanist Association have moved to humanity+, a far better claim, in my opinion.

En todo caso, no creo que Transhumanismo sea tan expresivo y claro como Human Enhancement. El primero parece referirse a un estado, incluso a un logro ya obtenido, mientras que Human Enhancement evoca inmediatamente la idea de acción, de proceso y camino, no de resultado. Engaña menos, por decirlo desde otra perspectiva.

Pero la sinonimia establecida nos permite tener otra clave para intentar traducir Human Enhancement al español. Para tener a mano, coloco aquí una lista de conceptos cognitivos relacionados.

Mis opciones preferidas son Amejoramiento Humano y Enriquecimento Humano. También Acrecentamiento Humano o Engrandecimiento Humano.

Amejoramiento en el RAE: 1. m. Der. En el derecho de la comunidad de Navarra, en España, reforma consistente en acrecentar el contenido de las normas forales.

Enriquecer en el RAE: 1. tr. Hacer rica a una persona, comarca, nación, fábrica, industria u otra cosa. U. m. c. prnl. -2. tr. Aumentar en una mezcla la proporción de uno de sus componentes. Uranio enriquecido. Alimentos enriquecidos con vitaminas. -3. tr. Adornar, engrandecer. -4. intr. Dicho de una persona, de un país, de una empresa, etc.: Prosperar notablemente. U. m. c. prnl.

Acrecentar en el RAE: 1. tr. aumentar. U. t. c. prnl. - 2. tr. Mejorar, enriquecer, enaltecer.

Engrandecimiento en el RAE: 1. m. Dilatación, aumento. - 2. m. ponderación (‖ exageración). - 3. m. Acción de engrandecer (‖ elevar a grado o dignidad superior).

Otras alternativas:

- Ampliación Humana, puede ser. Ampliar en el RAE: 1. tr. Extender, dilatar. - 2. tr. Reproducir fotografías, planos, textos, etc., en tamaño mayor que el del original.
- Amplificación Humana, podría ser. Amplificar en el RAE: 1. tr. ampliar (‖ extender, dilatar). - 2. tr. Aumentar la amplitud o intensidad de un fenómeno físico mediante un dispositivo o aparato. - 3. tr. Ret. Emplear la amplificación retórica.
- Mejoría Humana, puede ser. Mejoría en el RAE: 1. f. Alivio en una dolencia, padecimiento o enfermedad. - 2. f. Ventaja o superioridad de algo respecto de otra cosa. - 3. f. Aumento o medro de algo. - 4. f. ant. Ventaja o mejora que deja un testador además de la legítima.
- Expansión Humana, me gusta poco. Expansión en el RAE: 1. f. Acción y efecto de extenderse o dilatarse. - 2. f. Acción de desahogar al exterior de un modo efusivo cualquier afecto o pensamiento. Expansión del ánimo, de la alegría, de la amistad. - 3. f. Recreo, asueto, solaz.
- Extensión Humana, me gusta más. Extensión en el RAE:1. f. Acción y efecto de extender o extenderse. - 2. f. Línea conectada a una centralita. - 3. f. Biol. y Med. Preparación para examen microscópico, generalmente de sangre, exudados o cultivos bacterianos, en la que estas sustancias se disponen sobre un portaobjeto con ayuda de otro, de manera que forman una capa muy fina. - 4. f. - Exohumanismo, me parece incorrecto, pero podría ser. Exo es un prefijo, proveniente del griego, que significa fuera. Por ej.: Exobiología, ciencia que busca y estudia formas de vida fuera del planeta; Exocortex, computador unido al cerebro humano que ayuda a desarrollar pensamiento de alto nivel.
- Tecnohumanismo, podría ser, pero no me gusta mucho.

En la wiki lo llaman Perfeccionamiento Humano, que no me gusta.

El verbo mejorar tiene (según el RAE) algunas acepciones muy interesantes a estos efectos:

7. intr. Ponerse en lugar o grado ventajoso respecto del que antes se tenía. U. t. c. prnl.

En un foro en GNOSS dedicado a estos temas veo que usan el término Aumentación, que al princpio me produjo rechazo, pero luego iba encontrando su hueco, no del todo gustoso. Peo aumentación lleva a aumento y éste una vez más a Acrecentamiento, que me gusta. Y también hace surgir Extensión, vaya, Adelantamiento, hummm, y Potencia, hummmmmm. Y potencia nos acerca a Potenciación, hmmmmmmmmm. Dice la RAE:

All Together Now (IEET White Paper 01) (George Dvorsky, Jul 2006, IEET)- As the potential for enhancement technologies migrates from the theoretical to the practical, a difficult and important decision will be imposed upon human civilization, namely the issue as to whether or not we are morally obligated to biologically enhance nonhuman animals and integrate them into human and posthuman society. Precedents for intra-species cultural uplift abound in human history, providing both sobering and edifying episodes showcasing the possibilities for the instigated and accelerated advancement of technologically delayed societies. As a number of scientists, philosophers and futurists have recently argued, there is mounting evidence in support of the suggestion that these historical episodes are symptomatic of a larger developmental trend, namely the inexorable and steady advancement of intelligence. Civilizational progress necessarily implies increasing levels of organization and refinement across all realms of activity. Consequently, the status of nonhuman species and the biosphere will eventually come under the purview of guided intelligence rather than autonomous processes. That said, a developmental tendency towards uplift does not imply that it is good or right; more properly, it can be argued that uplift scenarios do in fact carry moral currency. Through the application of Rawlsian moral frameworks, and in consideration of the acknowledgement of legally recognized nonhuman persons, it can be shown that the presence of uplift biotechnologies will represent a new primary good and will thus necessitate the inclusion of highly sapient nonhumans into what has traditionally been regarded as human society. In addition to issues of distributive justice, the Rawlsian notion of original position can be used to answer the question of whether or not there is consent to uplift. Finally, it will be shown that the presence of uplift biotechnologies in the absence of the legal recognition of nonhuman persons and a mandate for responsible uplifting will ultimately lead to abuse, adding another important consideration to the uplift imperative
