Other Methods for Evaluating AUB

Several other methods can be used for evaluating abnormal uterine bleeding, although the benefits and relative risks must be considered and compared to EMB.

• Dilatation and Curettage (D & C)

• Transvaginal Ultrasound

• Hysteroscopy

• Saline Infusion Sonography

Remember:

• The sensitivity and specificity of EMB make it the best test in this setting. The detection rate of EMB for endometrial cancer is 91%. There is no "perfect test" so, if AUB persists, especially in patients at high risk for endometrial cancer, another test should be performed.
