Music and Imagery

Previous | Next

Music heightens imagery. You will notice that music is used in the guided imagery experiences in this unit, as well as most guided imagery recordings.

Music is a powerful stimulator of the right brain and, in many instances, can serve as a stand-alone calming or energizing intervention.

Music increases the effectiveness of guided imagery as it partners with the imagination. You will notice that the music is usually instrumental (no singing or lyrics).

If the imagery is designed to address anxiety, HTN, or pain, the music is soothing and sustained with a tempo between 60 and 70 bpm. Heart rate attunes and shifts to the tempo of the music. To lift mood, the music is usually 72-92 bpm.

Listen to a good example of music.

Listen to good music, but bad for relaxation.
