Slippery Elm

Benefit:
Improves GERD, gastric, and duodenal ulcer healing
Mechanism of Action:
Demulcent, offers mucoprotection of esophagus and stomach
Side Effects:
May decrease absorption of various pharmaceuticals
Available Forms:
Decoction prepared by simmering one part powdered bark to eight parts water for an hour or longer which makes a mucilaginous drink that can be taken as often as needed
Infusion prepared by pouring two cups boiling water over two tablespoons of powdered bark and then steeping for three to five minutes, taking three times daily
Capsules: Two capsules (250 to 500mg), three times daily
