These are invasive procedures, only do them if they are medically necessary. Resist doing a procedure for nurses' convenience in monitoring; that is not a good reason for any invasive procedure.
Always explain procedure and reasons for recommendation to patient.
Do not get discouraged if you do not get it right the first few times. Practice makes perfect!
