Common Mind-Body Terms

Previous | Next

Most patients and practitioners do not refer to Mind-Body Therapies (MBTs) as complementary or alternative therapies or as mind-body medicine practices. In any general discussion of MBTs with your patients or other healthcare professionals, it would be helpful to use any of the following common lay terms:

  • Stress-management techniques

  • Stress-reduction practices

  • Self-help techniques

  • Self-care practices

  • Relaxation therapies

When exploring the research literature to determine the clinical efficacy of MBTs, it is also important to include such terms in your search strategy. You will likely miss out on substantial evidence if you omit these terms.
