Regulating Body Temperature

Giving patients instructions on how to regulate their core body temperature can sometimes be enough to reduce the frequency or severity of hot flashes to the point that these symptoms are no longer debilitating.

Suggestions include:

  • Wear layered clothing and carry an extra shirt if necessary

  • Decrease alcohol, caffeine, and cigarette use

  • Decrease makeup use

  • Carry a handheld fan

  • Avoid spicy foods and hot drinks

  • Avoid any individual idiosyncratic contributors to hot flashes
