Effective Dosages

Back to Misconceptions About Opioids

Correct! This is a myth. Opioids do not have a narrow effective dosage range.

Opioids have a very wide effective dosage range. Two milligrams of oral morphine every four hours may be an effective dose for some patients, and others may require more than 300 milligrams every four hours. When opioids are carefully titrated to control pain of terminally ill patients, there is no maximum dosage.
