Biceps Tendonopathy

What is it: Biceps tendonopathy is an overuse degenerative injury of the biceps.

How does it present: The patient will usually have pain in the region of the antecubital fossa, pain may be worsened by elbow flexion or supination, especially against resistance.

Common exam findings: On exam you may appreciate tenderness over the biceps tendon in the antecubital fossa and elicit discomfort with resisted supination or elbow flexion.

Tests and treatment: No specific testing is required. Further imaging if needed could include ultrasound or magnetic resonance imagine (MRI) to further image the muscle and tendon. Treatment is generally conservative with modification of activity, resting, and icing. Physical therapy may be helpful.
