Physician Training: AAMA
The American Academy of Medical Acupuncture was founded in 1987.
The AAMA is the sole physician-only professional acupuncture society in North America.
Minimum AAMA membership requirements include 200 hours of graduate training in medical acupuncture at an AMA Category I certified program.
The AAMA oversees training standards, ethical conduct, and board certification of all M.D. or D.O. physician acupuncturists in North America.
Reminder: Physicians are permitted to perform acupuncture in all 50 states.
