Treatment Planning with Jim

Previous | Next

Primary Recommendations

While you may choose to recommend to Jim to start an anti-hypertensive medication, there is clearly good evidence to support a mind-body approach alone or in combination with other non-pharmacologic options. Based on what you learned in this unit, what meditation practice would you recommend for Jim to try?

The preferred choice depends on what Jim finds acceptable.

The type of meditation practice with the most substantial body of accumulated research is TM. The RR may be a more viable option since it is more accessible.

Learn ways to best help Jim incorporate RR as part of his treatment plan.

Patient Education

  • There are several websites and readings that you can recommend to Jim as a resource for him to learn more about meditation. Print the list (PDF) to give out as a patient handout.

Additional Recommendations

Aside from meditation practices, there are other recommendations you may want to include in negotiating your treatment plan with Jim. Psychological counseling, self-monitoring practices, nutritional educaton, and implementation of an exercise program are very appropriate options to discuss.
