Full Spectrum Light

Full spectrum lights at an intensity of 10,000 lux have been the most frequent focus of study. Use of full spectrum lights for 30 minutes each morning has been shown effective in multiple trials.

To use full spectrum lighting:

  • The light should be placed between 20" and 30" from the patient and at a 45-degree angle.

  • The light should be approximately placed at eye level.

  • Eyes should be kept open while using the light, but patients should not stare directly into the light.

  • The light should "bathe" the patient's face.

  • Using the light in an otherwise well-lit room can help to minimize eyestrain.
