Back and Pelvic Pain

Case

Ms. B, a 35-year-old G1P0 comes to you as she has had a history of lower back pain, which now seems to have worsened during pregnancy. She really wants to avoid medications as much as possible, because she has wanted this pregnancy for ten years, and does not want to ingest anything that could have any possible harmful effects on the baby. What can you recommend for her?

Note:

More than two-thirds of pregnant women experience back pain, almost one fifth of pregnant women experience pelvic pain. The pain increases with advancing pregnancy and interferes with work, daily activities, and sleep (Pennick and Young, 2007).
