What is it: Kienbock's Disease is avascular necrosis of the lunate bone of the wrist which may ultimately result in end stage arthritis.

How does it present: It will often present with wrist pain causing weakness or swelling and as the disease progresses, stiffness and decreased range of motion may be present with symptoms typical of arthritis.

Common exam findings: The exam may show tenderness over the region of the lunate, decreased range of motion and pain with ranges of motion.

Tests and treatment: An x-ray would show later stages of this condition. Immobilization can be considered in early disease, but once there is evidence on x-ray of the avascular necrosis, referral to orthopedics is indicated for management.
