Organs
Each meridian is paired with an organ. (See section: Meridians)
These functional units perform a collection of activities in the body that gives it identifying characteristics.
Much of the characteristics agree with conventional medical knowledge, and others extend into structures and operations not recognized in the allopathic model (e.g., kidneys filter blood, excrete urine but also oversee the joints, bones and hearing).
There are six yin (Zang) organs considered metabolic in activity and six yang organs (Fu) that act to transport nutrients, fluids and waste matter.
Six Yin Organs:
Kidney
Spleen
Liver
Heart
Bladder
Pericardium
Six Yang Organs:
Bladder
Stomach
Gall
Small Intestine
Triple Heater
Large Intestine
