Anatomy of Ventral Glans Innervation

The addition of ventral subcutaneous injection to the dorsal penile nerve block in all infant boys improves the overall analgesia because of double innervation of the ventral glans penis by the dorsal nerves and ventral perineal nerves (from the pudendal nerve) in about 20% of boys.

In this image: An illustration of a double innervation of the ventral glans penis.

A small study in adult men found that 22% had a double innervation of the ventral glans. These ventral penile nerves run subcutaneously just lateral to each side of the ventral raphé. These nerves likely ramify after passing the ventral base of the penis.
